Job Summary:

The Laborer, Grounds Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the grounds of industrial, commercial, or public properties including buildings, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and greenhouses. This role involves landscaping, minor repairs, and general upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and visually appealing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Groundskeeping & Landscaping:

  • Cut grass using walking-type or riding mowers (under 2000 lbs.)
  • Trim hedges and edges around walkways, flowerbeds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and hand tools
  • Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizers or insecticides
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
  • Water lawns and shrubs using hoses or sprinkler systems
  • Pick up and dispose of leaves, litter, and debris

Seasonal Maintenance: (Projects where applicable)

  • Remove snow from walkways, driveways, roads, and parking lots using shovels and snow blowers
  • Spread salt or de-icing materials on walkways and other surfaces

Repairs & Upkeep:

  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings
  • Assist in the repair of roads, walkways, buildings, and mechanical equipment

Cleaning & Sanitation:

  • Clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing
Qualifications:
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment and hand tools safely
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques and safety procedures
  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform manual labor
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping is a plus
Work Environment:
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers and insecticides
