Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a QC Inspector, Fireproofing to join our team supporting the Uranium Processing Facility! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection and testing of cementitious and intumescent fireproofing systems in accordance with project specifications, IBC requirements, and applicable ASTM standards.
  • Conduct thickness, density, and adhesion/cohesion testing (e.g., ASTM E605, ASTM E736) and document results accurately.
  • Inspect penetration and joint firestop systems to verify compliance with approved UL listings and project requirements.
  • Review construction drawings, submittals, and manufacturer specifications to ensure proper installation and compliance.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, subcontractors, and project management to address quality concerns and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain thorough quality documentation in accordance with project and NQA-1 requirements.
  • Support audits, surveillances, and readiness reviews as part of the QC program.
  • Identify nonconforming conditions, document deficiencies, and track resolution to closure.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with site safety, security, and regulatory requirements specific to the UPF project.
  • Participate in pre-installation meetings and provide technical input related to fireproofing and firestop systems.

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience or a High School Diploma and 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Must have previous experience as an International Building Code (IBC) Special Inspector.
  • Must have 1-2 years of consistent experience with cementitious and/or intumescent fireproofing.
  • Must have working knowledge of applicable standards and test methods, including ASTM E605 and ASTM E736, as well as manufacturer specifications.
  • Must have the ability to perform and document thickness, density, and adhesion testing.
  • Must have the ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and UL system details.
  • Must have effective communication skills for coordination with contractors, engineers, and project teams.

Desired Skills
  • Prefer a NACE certification (current or prior).
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 years of coatings and/or fireproofing experience.
  • Prefer at least 2 years of experience inspecting or installing penetration and joint firestop systems.
  • Prefer the ability to verify firestop systems in accordance with UL listings.
  • Prefer the knowledge of firestop-related standards and test methods (e.g., ASTM E2393, ASTM E2174).
  • Prefer previous NQA-1 Quality Control certification.

The Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) is a construction project at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee that is intended to modernize and replace aging facilities for uranium operations. Once complete, UPF will support the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, naval reactors, and defense nuclear nonproliferation while ensuring the long-term safety, security, and viability of enriched uranium capabilities in the United States.
