CPV Woodbridge is seeking a multi-skilled Combustion Turbine Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. This role combines hands-on maintenance expertise with control room operational responsibilities. Based on qualifications and training, the selected candidate may be placed into a single-skill role initially or directly into a multi-skilled technician position. Candidates with demonstrated experience across operations, electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation & controls in a power generation environment are strongly preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and control combined-cycle power plant systems from the control room, including combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Perform safe and efficient startup, shutdown, and normal operations of plant equipment in accordance with operating procedures and dispatch instructions.
- Monitor plant performance, alarms, and system data; identify abnormal conditions and initiate corrective actions.
- Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment, including combustion turbines, steam turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, motors, breakers, switchgear, and auxiliary systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation, control systems, and DCS components, including field devices and control loops.
- Support calibration activities and maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and compliance records.
- Respond to plant upset conditions, forced outages, and emergency events in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate work activities with operations, maintenance, contractors, and OEM personnel to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
- Participate in planning and execution of routine maintenance, forced outages, and major plant outages.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Actively participate in plant safety programs, including use of PPE, job safety analyses, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Perform outside operator rounds, inspections, and equipment checks as required.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned to support reliable plant operations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid New Jersey Black Seal License required.
- Minimum 3-5+ years of experience in operations and/or maintenance at a combined-cycle or similar power generation facility.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of combustion turbine generating stations and balance-of-plant systems.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, callouts, and outage schedules.
- Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Ability to work safely around rotating equipment, high-voltage electrical systems, and pressurized systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, P&IDs, electrical drawings, and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work activities simultaneously.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and plant systems (e.g., CMMS).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multi-discipline environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience operating and maintaining GE 7FA combustion turbines.
- Familiarity with GE Mark VI / Mark VIe control systems.
- Electrical maintenance experience troubleshooting motors, breakers, switchgear, and plant electrical systems.
- Instrumentation & Controls experience, including:
- Calibration, testing, tuning, and replacement of field instruments
- Troubleshooting control loops and DCS-related issues
- Mechanical maintenance experience with turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, and rotating equipment.
- Basic proficiency in alignment, rigging, equipment inspection, and component repair.
- Understanding of plant dispatch protocols and grid operating requirements.
