This early career Intern Electrical Engineering position allows you to grow your skills as a member of the Product Development team - a multi-disciplinary engineering development team that includes System Engineering, Electrical System and Power Conversion Design, Mechanical Design, Control Hardware Design, Grid Regulation coordination, Software Design, and Integration / Test.


Job Description

Wind Engineering Interns on the Salem, Virginia design team experience technically challenging, meaningful, and creative assignments within the Electrical & Grid Lifecycle Subsystem. As an intern, you\'ll have the opportunity to work in one of several functional areas: Electrical Systems Design, Firmware Engineering, Controls Engineering, Printed Circuit Board Design, Mechanical Design, and Lab Validation. Your work will support design and development of wind turbine Blade Pitch control systems, and wind turbine Power Converter systems. You will work in a hands‑on lab environment, with equipment for full‑scale testing of megawatt‑level power conversion equipment for agency compliance, grid compatibility, reliability, and more. You will work on custom build‑to‑print hardware (cabinets, circuit boards, etc.), with the opportunity to see your schematics and drawings grow into physical products that GE Vernova supports through their entire lifecycle of design, manufacturing, and fleet support. Engineering Interns are the pipeline for roles at GE Vernova. Candidates (rising undergraduate seniors or graduating master’s candidates) with a strong interest in and aptitude for technical development for Power Conversion, Controls, and Electronics design will have the opportunity to apply for full‑time roles supporting these functions during the internship. All internships will take place between May and August 2027.


What you will bring (Basic Qualifications)

Students must be currently enrolled in a full‑time undergraduate or graduate program in an engineering discipline as listed below from an ABET accredited university. Eligible Majors: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. Other Engineering majors such as: Aero Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or other Energy related majors will be considered. Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship Must be able to work on‑site in Salem, VA. Relocation assistance provided.

The pay for this position ranges from $21.00/hr - $36.00/hr based on years of undergraduate/graduate field of study completed. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible. Housing Allowance: Co‑op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off‑set living expenses when the co‑op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location. Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services GE Vernova Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans. (Eligibility occurs on the 1st of the month following the 90th day.)
