Job description

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is forging an American energy future with integrity, innovation, and positive impact. Born in Texas in 2003, we own and operate over 30 utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in local communities across the United States, totaling 4 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.
LRE continues to help meet increased U.S. energy demand through our robust pipeline of new projects every year. Job Summary:
The Turbine Engineering Manager (M3) reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for managing the Leeward Turbine Engineering team, including all aspects of turbine reliability and performance for the Leeward wind fleet. The goals of this position are to provide technical guidance to Leeward operating plants, deliver cost saving and production improvement projects, and support the transition of new projects into the operating fleet. The position requires the ability to manage team resources effectively as well as deliver complex and time-sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions:
  • Leverage the turbine engineering team to achieve improvements in plant performance and reliability
  • Identify turbine issues and develop solutions through coordination with plant managers and other Leeward management
  • Systematically identify, prioritize, and remediate faults leading to downtime and lost energy
  • Develop programs, including required documentation, to manage and maintain turbine productivity, including condition monitoring, inspection, performance improvement, maintenance, and repair
  • Takes ownership of the LRE Integrity Management Program for wind turbines and approves procedures recommended by the turbine team
  • Develop expertise in technical aspects of GE, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Gamesa and Vestas wind turbines.
  • Maintain the productivity and work quality of the Turbine Engineering team
  • Delegate and prioritize projects and tasks for the Turbine Engineering team
  • Leads the evaluation and promotion of new technologies and equipment upgrades
  • Deliver annual budget inputs for turbine-related projects and operational costs
  • Train and develop the individuals in the turbine engineering team
  • Analyze, summarize, and communicate progress and findings regularly to Leeward operations management team

Qualifications:
  • 4-Year Bachelors Engineering Degree; Masters and P.E. credentials are a plus
  • 10 or more years of relevant technical experience; experience with wind power generation preferred
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical system component design and operation
  • Experience with the maintenance and repair of wind turbines including large components
  • Experience analyzing turbine performance using operational data to develop maintenance recommendations
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams and other common specifications
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers
  • Ability to manage a team of engineers and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment

Please Note: This is an in-office role, requiring on site presence in our office a minimum of three days per week with hybrid flexibility of working remotely two days per week, subject to manager and policy approval. #LIHybrid
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations to inspect and repair equipment or collect information
  • Ability to climb and work in a wind turbine which includes confined spaces and working at heights
  • Willingness and ability to travel at least 25%
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
