Summary / Objective

The Gate Operator Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of gate operator and access control systems. This role requires a strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems and strict adherence to safety standards and industry best practices.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of low-voltage electrical systems, including unfamiliar or complex configurations.
  • Install gate operators and related accessories in accordance with manufacturer specifications, UL 325 standards, and industry best practices.
  • Program and monitor gate operator and access control systems both on-site and remotely.
  • Install conduit runs according to project drawings and specifications.
  • Install electric strikes, card readers, and other access control components.
  • Perform in-ground loop installations in asphalt and concrete surfaces.
  • Use power and hand tools, including drills, saws, and grinders, to complete installations safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain assigned company service vehicle and notify management of any required maintenance.
  • Maintain organized vehicle and shop inventory, ensuring materials and tools are properly stocked.
  • Review technical manuals and conduct independent research to stay current on equipment and evolving technology.
  • Professionally represent B&T Fencing while interacting with clients, contractors, and vendors.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed outdoors and may expose the technician to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Proper safety procedures and personal protective equipment are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, generally scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Overtime and extended hours may be required depending on project demands.

Travel

Occasional overnight travel and weekend work may be required. Employees working overtime are paid time-and-a-half in accordance with company policy. Employees traveling overnight are provided per diem.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of related industry experience or mechanical/technical experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with installing and diagnosing basic mechanical or low-voltage systems.
