Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Gas Meter Technician will install, test, maintain, and repair residential and commercial gas meters, regulators, and piping while ensuring compliance with safety standards. This role requires expertise in pipefitting, pressure testing, and diagnostic equipment, as well as strong customer service skills.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLIITIES
  • Install, replace, and upgrade gas meters, regulators, and associated piping.
  • Test and calibrate meters using diagnostic equipment ("provers") to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Inspect, identify, and repair gas leaks in above-ground meter sets. Perform pressure tests and respond to gas odor or CO calls.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and connect black iron pipes according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Perform customer appliance relights, turn-ons/turn-offs, and explain meter readings to customers.
  • Maintain accurate, legible records of installation, maintenance, and testing in data systems.
  • Support and embody the company's mission and core values, contributing positively to the team and overall workplace culture.
  • Lead by example in upholding the company's safety program, ensuring employees are compliant with all safety standards, protocols, and regulations
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Working experience in Natural Gas Utility construction preferred.
  • Knowledge of pipefitting, blueprint reading, and using diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Strong focus on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and perform tasks requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as project required.

Pay Range: $28 - $35 per hour
