City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Meter Reader to perform accurate reading, installation, removal, repair and maintenance of water meters. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A METER READER
As a Meter Reader, you spend your day conducting test of water meters for accuracy and proper functioning, and assist in repair of water line breaks. Your work typically is to notify customers when water will be off for repairs. Your job is essential to the city, and you often maintain vehicles, tools and equipment, and complete daily work reports and records. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include responding to customer complaints of low pressure, no water and meter leaks. When you are not out in the city, you maintain good relations with customers, general public and City employees. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in maintenance of water meters and replace damaged meter boxes and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A METER READER
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency
  • No experience required
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
    • Preferred TCEQ Class "C" or higher Water Distribution License.
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Water Distribution License within first (1) year of employment.
  • Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution License within three (3) years of employment.
