Job description

Title:  West Virginia GameChanger Coach (Extra-Curricular)

 

Overview

 

West Virginia GameChanger is a youth-led, adult-based, prevention, peer-to-peer influence, positive youth development and community enhancement initiative designed to educate, support, and empower our youth to make healthy choices as they strive to be our leaders of tomorrow. GameChanger is currently building a large-scale prevention initiative in several schools across the State. For this initiative, GameChanger is seeking full-time educators or other school staff in these identified GameChanger Schools to serve as West Virginia GameChanger Coaches for the academic year. This is not an athletic position. All qualified school staff in identified schools may apply for this role.
 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The West Virginia GameChanger Coach at each GameChanger School is responsible for being the primary school site collaborator and point of contact between their school community and partners at the West Virginia GameChanger initiative. GameChanger Coaches will work with West Virginia GameChanger staff to development, implement, and sustain a comprehensive, dynamic GameChanger Peer Leadership program throughout their school community across the academic year.
 

 

Collaboration will include multiple time commitments:

 

  • Consistently interfacing with both onsite and remote GameChanger staff to plan and provide school prevention programming for GameChanger students and the whole community.

  • Serving as their school's spokesperson for the West Virginia GameChanger initiative for the academic year.

  • Helping to lead their school's comprehensive prevention planning efforts, in collaboration with other school health staff.

  • Advising their school's team of GameChanger Students, a school club that the coach will be responsible for building and training throughout the academic year.

  • Participating in and helping coordinate in their school GameChanger Team's GameChanger rally.

  • Actively supporting all data collection efforts made by the GameChanger initiative.

  • Actively addressing their school's data-driven needs, in collaboration with other school health staff.

  • Supporting the efforts of other WV GameChanger Coaches across the State.

  • Participating in cross-school professional development trainings no less than twice a semester.












 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Commitment to remain a full-time employee at an identified GameChanger School through the academic year

  • At least 3 years of experience within current school community

  • Demonstrated experience as a student or youth group leader in clubs, churches, or at school

  • Current driver's license

  • Endorsement from school leadership (principal)









 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • State-specific prevention specialist licensure or other current professional license (e.g., alcohol and drug counseling, social work, psychology)

  • Experience in prevention settings and knowledge of the dynamics of substance use disorder and its effect on individuals, families, and communities

  • Master's degree in education, public health, counseling, or related field






 

Salary:     $5000.00 per academic year
