QUALIFICATIONS:ย

1. Has the ability to organize and supervise aย sports program.ย

ย 2. Has previousย coaching experience in assigned sport. (Major sports)ย

3. The volunteerย coach must have ย knowledge of the technical aspects of the sportย 
ย 
and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent toย 
ย 
the field.ย 
ย 
4. The volunteerย coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes throughย 
ย 
his/her instructions and actions.ย 
ย 
REPORTS TO: The athletic director or designated person, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation inย 
ย 
conjunction with the sports program.

ย 
ย 
JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical trainingย 
ย 
necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the sameย 
ย 
time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to sociallyย 
ย 
acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride ofย 
ย 
accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skillsย 
ย 
through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.ย

GENERAL: 1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community'sย

image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerableย 
ย 
responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance isย 
ย 
taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and goodย 
ย 
mental health.ย 
ย 
ย 2. The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, risk injuryย 
ย 
factor and due process predicaments.ย

ย 3. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance toย

function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coachย

shall exercise common sense and good judgment.ย

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ย

1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Jennings Countyย Communityย 
ย 
Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of theย 
ย 
sports program.ย 
ย 
2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently andย 
ย 
interprets them for staff.ย 
ย 
3. Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres toย 
ย 
scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.ย 
ย 
4. Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations,ย 
ย 
parental consent and eligibility.ย 
ย 
5. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.ย 
ย 
6. Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletesย 
ย 
the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.ย 
ย 
7. By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance andย 
ย 
safeguards for each participant.ย 
ย 
8. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who isย 
ย 
considered a participant.ย
