Job Description
ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - the fund-raising organization of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - is currently looking for a Software Engineer III as follows.
Responsible for providing technical leadership while actively engaging in the design, development, implementation, and support of multi-layered enterprise applications. This includes not only performing the appropriate software development lifecycle activities, but also serving as a technical leader and mentor to other engineers. Serve as a subject matter expert in one or more aspects of software engineering best practices, which includes but is not limited to front-end UI & UX, APIs & micro services, schema development, and SecDevOps. Explore emerging technologies and anticipate industry disruptions. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and conforms to coding standards. Duties include:
Lead Technical Design and Development
  • Analyze, design, and develop complex application changes and project milestones across multiple systems within the platform.
  • Troubleshoot issues, perform containment strategies, and execute root cause analysis to ensure system stability and performance.
  • Drive technical initiatives that span multiple systems, ensuring alignment with business and technical objectives.

Mentorship and Team Development
  • Serve as a mentor to Software Engineers I and II, providing guidance on technical and data analysis, problem-solving, and best practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions to strengthen team capabilities and promote continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Gathering
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders through interviews and data-gathering activities to support application development and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and customers to resolve issues and plan for future system needs.

Application Design and Development
  • Analyze, design, and develop new application systems using advanced programming techniques and tools.
  • Create and modify complex application programs, including testing, debugging, documentation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure user experience considerations, including color-enhanced screen design and usability standards.

Continuous Learning and Innovation
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, development tools, and programming techniques.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to maintain technical expertise and introduce innovative solutions.

Collaboration and Leadership
  • Act as a technical lead for projects, guiding team members through the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Assist in planning and implementing system enhancements and modifications to meet evolving business needs.

Position eligible to telecommute from anywhere in U.S.
Position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field and three (3) years of technical, analytical, systems, and programming experience -- OR -- a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field followed by five (5) years of technical, analytical, systems, and programming experience. Experience must include three (3) years of experience each of the following:
(i) Data Engineering & ETL including ETL / ELT processes and Data transformation.
(ii) Database & SQL Technologies including SQL Server and SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools).
(iii) Integration & DevOps including CI/CD processes, Application integration, and Database source control.
(iv) Security & Compliance including Security-minded development and Root cause analysis.
(v) Analytics & Insights including Working with unstructured datasets and building actionable insights.
(vi) Programming including Python.
