Job Description:
If you're a Design & Drafting student with a passion for bridge design/detailing and looking to take your understanding of this field to the next level, the Nebraska Department of Transportation's Bridge Division is the perfect place for you. With ownership of more than 3,500 state-owned bridges and data management responsibility for all 15,000 bridges in the state, we have extensive experience and expertise in the field of bridge engineering, design, and detailing. As a part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to advance quickly in your career and make a meaningful impact on Nebraska's transportation infrastructure.
As a member of the NDOT team, you'll be part of an organization that is responsible for planning, developing, designing, constructing, maintaining, and administering the state highway system. Our mission is to preserve the billions of dollars that Nebraskans have invested in their state highway system while making the highways safe and efficient, all while completing projects in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Job Duties:
As a bridge design intern at the Nebraska Department of Transportation Bridge Division, you will have the potential to gain experience and develop skills in a variety of areas. This may include learning how to read bridge construction plans effectively and quickly, as well as developing plans, geometric design, and detailing skills. You may also become familiar with specialized bridge software. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in structural, hydrology and hydraulics, geotechnical, roadway, materials, construction, and environmental engineering, as an active member of multi-disciplinary teams. You may also learn how bridges are constructed through in-the-field opportunities. These experiences offer a unique opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge that can help you advance your career in the field of bridge design and detailing.
Successful completion of our internship program can open opportunities for full-time positions with the Nebraska Department of Transportation's Bridge Division.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A.A.S Design & Drafting Technology student with relevant coursework.
  • Ability to work 10 hours minimum per week.

Other:
  • Employment may be possible for up to 2 years with proof of enrollment in an accredited college.
  • Class schedules must be submitted at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment and transcripts of grades.
  • Temporary, full-time work may be available during breaks.

They must be an effective communicator, able to manage their time well, and demonstrate a high degree of accountability and ethical integrity.
