Job description

THE POSITION The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking an experienced and dependable Wildlife Maintenance Propagator. This is an exciting opportunity to support wildlife conservation through daily game farm operations. You will help care for pheasants, maintain equipment, and contribute to successful releases statewide.

This role offers engaging, active work that allows you to develop skills in several trades. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position plays a key role in raising pheasants for statewide release and assisting with daily game farm operations.

As a Wildlife Maintenance Propagator, you will perform the following duties: Brooder Preparation: Prepare brooder houses by cleaning, disinfecting, and setting up materials such as floor shavings Bird Care: Maintain proper temperature, ventilation, lighting, feed, and water while observing bird behavior during all stages of development Bird Handling: Perform tasks such as administering medication, sexing birds, trimming beaks, removing deceased birds, and loading birds for distribution Facility Maintenance: Complete carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and mechanical tasks to maintain buildings, equipment, and grounds Equipment Service: Conduct preventative maintenance on trucks, tractors, and other mechanical equipment including replacing fluids, filters, and worn parts Work Leadership: Lead Game Farm Workers and maintain daily operational records Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

Shift work during the brooding season. Note: You will be considered an essential employee which requires reporting into the office location in time of an emergency. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Six months propagation experience working at a breeding facility that produces a minimum of 1000 game birds, which includes skilled maintenance and trades work utilized in building construction and equipment maintenance and operation. Special Requirement: This position requires an active Pennsylvania driver's license, which is not under suspension. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
