JOB SUMMARY:

Bring the excitement of Miami Country Day School Athletics to life! The Game Day Announcer plays an important role in creating an engaging, professional, and welcoming game-day experience for student-athletes, coaches, families, and fans.

This position provides clear and accurate play-by-play announcements, communicates important game information, and supports scoreboard and game-day operations for Miami Country Day School athletic events. The ideal candidate is confident behind the microphone, knowledgeable about sports, comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced environment, and committed to maintaining professionalism and neutrality throughout each event.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Arrives at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of each assigned event to prepare for game-day responsibilities.

  • Provides clear, accurate, and professional play-by-play announcements during athletic events.

  • Reviews and reads prepared scripts and announcements at designated times throughout the event.

  • Verifies team rosters prior to the start of each event to ensure player names and numbers are accurate.

  • Announces starting lineups for both teams, including players' first and last names and uniform numbers.

  • Becomes familiar with player names and numbers to provide accurate announcements throughout the event.

  • Interprets officials' calls and clearly communicates relevant information to the audience, including fouls, timeouts, and other game updates.

  • Communicates and coordinates with Athletics staff, officials, the home bookkeeper, coaches, and other game-day personnel.

  • Operates the scoreboard and game clock, as assigned, in accordance with the requirements of each sport.

  • Maintains accurate scores, fouls, and other applicable game information.

  • Plays designated music during appropriate breaks in game action and delivers scripted announcements at the appropriate times.

  • Maintains a professional and neutral presence, avoiding commentary or announcements that could unnecessarily influence or incite spectators.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned in support of Athletics and game-day operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma
  • Previous broadcasting, public address announcing, sports announcing, or related experience preferred.

  • General knowledge of multiple sports, including basic rules, terminology, and regulations.

  • Ability to work scheduled athletic events, which may include afternoons, evenings, and other times based on the Athletics schedule.

  • Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions, including periods of extreme heat.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds as required in connection with game-day responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly, confidently, and professionally in front of an audience.

  • Strong ability to read and deliver prepared scripts naturally and accurately.

  • Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to remain composed and professional in a fast-paced environment involving deadlines, changing circumstances, and a wide variety of interactions.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively with coaches, officials, Athletics staff, student-athletes, and visiting teams.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism and neutrality throughout athletic competitions.
