Job description

The GIS Technician is responsible for performing GIS editing assignments and coordinating the work of other employees. The Technician works in state-of-the-art ESRI GIS systems and related company systems and databases.
1. Post all changes to the electric transmission, substation, distribution, and land-base asset records in GIS through work order, system change notices, map markups, field checks and/or any document that reflects a change to the electric system. The primary tools used are Geographical Information System (GIS) and AutoCAD.
2. Ensure quality, accuracy and timely posting of Company/Customer electric transmission, substation, distribution and land-base records in GIS through editing and reconciling all pertinent information.
3. Utilize computer application tools such as, but not limited to, Maximo, iTOA, OMNI (customer information system), GIS, Excel and other applications needed to manage workflow.
4. Perform field look-ups; both overhead and underground assets to verify the accuracy of distribution and transmission records in support of the work order process.
5. Track the status of construction on work orders by receiving and reconciling records from the appropriate systems.
6. Perform QA/QC on hardcopy output derived from GIS data (i.e. Follow Sheets, Circuit One-Line Maps etc.)
7. Provide recommendations to support management decisions in the prioritizing of work, training needs and allocation of resources.
8. Lead and coordinate with employees at the same or lower grade levels to ensure timeliness and quality of work on projects which require more than one GIS Technician.
9. Provide coaching and training on work practices, procedures, functions, systems, and technology utilized by the GIS records group
10. Provide general support for the customers. This includes activities in the design, construction and posting stages as needed to support the flow of work.
11. Train Company/Customer personnel in the understanding and use of all records systems pertaining to distribution and transmission work.
I. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The GIS Technician position reports to the GIS Records Supervisor
II. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office and field work environment
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree in GIS or equivalent certification from a technical school of college grade. This degree, or equivalent formal technical education, must be in a field applicable to the engineering and /or technical activities of the GIS Records Department.
2. Minimum of Two (2) years' experience in computer aided design drafting (GIS, AutoCAD) or equivalent.
3. Massachusetts Driver's License and approved to operate company vehicles.
4. Applicants must successfully pass the TECH Test
The salary range for this position starts at $45.15 and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
