Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time GIS/Cartography Technician 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for being an entry level professional responsible for creating, editing, evaluating and maintaining cartographic data for Garmin products using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. This role also ensures work aligns with established methodology, processes, and quality standards while actively contributing to the team's success.
Essential Functions
  • Works under close supervision following detailed instructions and established processes to produce quality cartographic data for use in Garmin products and services
  • Creates, edits, and maintains cartographic data using Garmin-proprietary and/or third-party GIS software
  • Completes clearly defined cartographic data tasks accurately and efficiently, including source data analysis, GIS data preprocessing, and data quality checks, to support Garmin product and services
  • Identifies and resolves basic data issues using appropriate cartographic data and GIS techniques
  • Submits work for review, incorporates feedback, and ensures product integrity
  • Communicates progress, challenges, and status updates clearly to supervisors or mentors

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geosciences, Geography, Cartography, GIS, or related field OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Basic understanding of digital cartographic data principles and GIS tools relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Proficiency in PC applications and Windows-based environments
  • Ability to learn and apply established processes, tools, and GIS workflows
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication
  • Well-organized with strong attention to detail and ability to document work thoroughly
  • Demonstrates accountability, commitment, and a professional attitude
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment and maintains positive working relationships
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset by actively seeking, accepting, and applying constructive feedback to support continuous learning and development
  • Shows initiative in learning new tools, processes, and concepts, with a proactive approach to problem-solving
