The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including Air Force Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.
Aerospace provides technical advice, thought leadership, and systems engineering support to Space Force. This organization is building and evolving the service's activities to ideate and design the Objective Force using modern digital environments and enterprise architecture models. In addition to directly supporting senior Space Force leadership, Aerospace also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with government customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in Crystal City, VA.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead or support the integration of mission area analyses and engineering into the Objective Force within a modern digital environment.
  • Develop and implement approaches for integrating mission threads within the enterprise architecture framework.
  • Collaborate effectively in an on-site environment with senior Government leaders, Aerospace program offices, and the Engineering and Technical Group (ETG) to address complex technical and programmatic challenges.
  • Deliver best-in-class technical analyses and actionable recommendations that drive customer mission success.
  • Develop, foster, and maintain strategic relationships with field and headquarters offices across the United States Space Force (USSF).
  • Address the full spectrum of Space Force systems engineering and integration challenges by building end-to-end processes and models, and leading data infrastructure development activities.
  • Deliver timely, high-quality responses to time-sensitive staff inquiries and provide technical support for official correspondence to Congress, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Department of the Air Force, HQ Space Force, and the Intelligence Community.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements - Project Engineer - Enterprise Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, mathematics, science, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 6+ years of progressive professional engineering or scientific experience in multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and/or national security space enterprise.
  • Experience with system-of-systems (SoS) engineering, enterprise architecting, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and processes (e.g., Cameo, UAF).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically approximately 20% as customer mission requirements dictate.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • This position requires an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.

In addition to the above requirements, the minimum requirements for Sr. Project Engineer - Enterprise Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive professional engineering or scientific experience in multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Aerospace Corporation functions through ETG and program office coordination and reach-back support.
  • Significant experience and knowledge of system-of-systems (SoS) engineering, enterprise architecting, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies, tools, and processes (e.g., Cameo).
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically approximately 20% as customer mission requirements dictate.
  • Proven track record of effectively advising and collaborating with senior government and military leadership.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to ambiguous challenges and proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

How You Can Stand Out

  • Demonstrated track record of innovative problem-solving and entrepreneurial approaches to complex challenges.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering executive-level briefings to senior Government leaders (General Officers and/or Senior Executive Service).
  • Thorough understanding of organizational roles and responsibilities across the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, space system program offices, defense agencies, Joint Staff, and other government organizations in the national security space enterprise.
