Retail Furniture Associate

Role Overview:
Help Create Life Change Through Second Chancesย 

At New Horizons Thrift Stores, our cause is to help create life change through second chances, one purchase, one life at a time. As a Retail Furniture Associate, you willย  help create joyful thrifting experiences by preparing furniture for sale, keeping the warehouse and sales floor organized, and assisting guests with friendly, dependable service under the direction of the Furniture Department Lead.

Additional tasks may be assigned at times by your supervisor. Consideration will be given to your current workload and duties.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Clean and prepare furniture as directed
  • Complete simple minor repairs when assigned
  • Remove unsold items when instructed
  • Keep the warehouse and furniture areas clean and orderly
  • Move, stage, and rotate furniture as directed
  • Greet guests and offer friendly, helpful service
  • Assist with loading purchases and unloading donations
  • Fill assigned register shifts
  • Follow daily direction from the Furniture Department Lead

Workplace Environment

Physical Conditions

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Exposure to dust, cleaning supplies, changing temperatures, and used goods is common.
  • Use of hand tools, power tools, furniture dollies, hand trucks, and pallet jacks is required.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive movements
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally, either alone or with assistance

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Expect occasional evening, holiday, and weekend shifts.
  • A minimum of one evening shift and one Saturday shift per month will be scheduled in place of a regular shift.

  • Internet- Navigating the Internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers; use searches, hypertext references, and transfer protocols; and send and retrieve electronic mail (e-mail).
  • Navigation- Using scroll bars, a mouse, and dialog boxes to work within the computer's operating system. Being able to access and switch between applications and files of interest.
  • Word Processing- Using a computer application to type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word processing documents.
  • Databases- Using a computer application to manage large amounts of information, including creating and editing simple databases, inputting data, retrieving specific records, and creating reports to communicate the information.

Experience/Training Required:
Basic experience in woodworking or mechanical is preferred.

New Horizons Thrift Stores will provide training as required if not experienced or trained in that field.

Compensation/Benefits:
Full-time

This is a non-exempt full-time position. Overtime pay rate applies for time worked over 40 hours per week.ย 
Paid Medical Leave, MEC, and Life Insurance are included, optional health benefits include Vision, and HDHP. Paid vacation begins to accrue after 30 days.
Compensation will be paid twice a month, on the 7th and 21st of each month.ย
