Job description

Over the past four decades, ADAMS Center has grown into one of the largest Muslim communities in the Washington, D.C. area. Today, we serve the areas of Sterling, Ashburn, Centerville, Chantilly, Gainesville, Great Falls, Herndon, Leesburg, McLean, and Reston, in northern Virginia. Our community continues to grow each year as more families join us.
Under the guidance of a licensed Funeral Director, the Funeral Home Manager assists bereaved families in providing a dignified and respectful final farewell to their loved ones. This role is a vital pillar of the ADAMS Center, requiring a dedicated balance of professional excellence, deep empathy, and steadfast adherence to Islamic customs.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Community Relations
  • Act as the first point of contact for inquiries, providing timely and accurate information regarding costs, protocols, and services.
  • Consult with families to guide them through the funeral process, ensuring all arrangements align with Islamic customs and ADAMS Center policies.
  • Manage funeral services and post-service follow-ups, proactively resolving family concerns with empathy and professionalism.

Operations & Facility Management
  • Lead daily operations, including Ghusl and shrouding, facility maintenance, vendor relations, and procurement.
  • Maintain the preparation of space and equipment to ensure they are sanitized, orderly, and fully stocked.
  • Staff & Volunteer Leadership
  • Direct and supervise funeral assistants, ensuring they understand their roles and maintain a compassionate service standard.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Imams' Office, Operations, and Accounting to ensure seamless coordination and execution of Janazah services
  • Manage staff and volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all cases and community needs.

Administrative & Legal Support
  • Assist the Funeral Director with the preparation and filing of death certificates, permits, and legal documentation.
  • Manage office logistics: handle multiline phone systems, process payments, maintain digital records, and operate audiovisual systems.
  • Perform essential errands, such as obtaining necessary licenses or certifications for services.

Religious Preparation (Ghusl & Janazah)
  • Coordinate and assist in the respectful preparation of the deceased (including washing, shrouding, and lifting) in strict accordance with Islamic laws and traditions.
  • Ensure the deceased is prepared for viewing/Janazah as permitted by law and religious guidance.

  • Associate degree in Mortuary Science or Business Administration (preferred); high school diploma/GED (required).
  • 3-5 years of professional experience with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills focused on grief support and empathy.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage complex logistics and volunteer groups.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic funeral rites.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift at least 75 pounds and assist with the handling of the deceased.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and nights, including on-call duties.
  • A valid driver's license and clean record, with the ability to operate limousines and high-capacity vehicles.
  • Proficiency in basic office technology, payment systems, and AV equipment.
