Job description

General Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Linux System Administrator with expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware ESXi virtualization, automation scripting, and foundational networking. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing our Linux-based infrastructure while supporting virtualized environments and ensuring reliable system performance and connectivity.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Install, configure, and maintain RHEL systems across physical and virtual environments.
  • Administer VMware ESXi hosts and vSphere environments.
  • Develop and maintain automation workflows for RHEL systems using tools such as Ansible, Bash, and Python to enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Automate network infrastructure tasks using Ansible, Python, NETCONF/YANG, and CLI scripting.
  • Create scripts and utilize APIs to integrate systems and extract actionable data for cross-functional automation and reporting.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure availability and reliability.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly; update administrative tools and utilities.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
  • Implement and enforce system security policies and procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with network and security teams to ensure seamless integration and compliance.
  • Configure and maintain BIND DNS and KEA DHCP.
  • Understanding of enterprise backup solutions.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator, preferably with RHEL.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi and vSphere.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python for automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or higher.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
  • Familiarity with Docker containers.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) is a plus.

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid New Mexico state driver's license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company's insurance policy.

Working Conditions:

Usually good working conditions. Climate controlled buildings with adequate lighting and space. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, cold/heat, and traffic or interruptions. Some elements present which make conditions less desirable than usually found in an office. The normal noise level is quiet in the office environment and may be moderate to loud in outside conditions.
