Mechanical Engineering Functional Manager:
Tektronix is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Functional Manager to support New Product Development and Sustainment initiatives for advanced test and measurement solutions as part of the Precision DC Solutions Portfolio. This role provides functional leadership to a team of Mechanical Engineers working closely with New Product Development Program Managers, Electrical Engineering, Operations, Industrial Design, and Business Development teams to deliver robust, reliable, and manufacturable mechanical designs for high-performance instrumentation platforms.
The Mechanical Engineering Functional Manager is responsible for building and developing technical talent, aligning mechanical engineering execution with business priorities, and ensuring disciplined engineering processes are consistently applied across projects. The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical design for precision instrumentation, the ability to prioritize across multiple programs, and proven experience leading professional engineering teams in a fast-paced product development environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide functional leadership and people management for Mechanical Engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development
  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing mechanical engineering organization with strong technical depth and engagement
  • Set clear expectations and align mechanical engineering teams to business priorities, project commitments, cost, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Partner with program management and cross-functional leaders to ensure effective execution of new product development and sustainment efforts
  • Drive consistent adoption of mechanical engineering best practices, design standards, and continuous improvement across teams
  • Ensure mechanical designs meet requirements for performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and regulatory compliance
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development for high-technology products, including precision mechanical design, thermal management, structural analysis, and/or electro-mechanical systems
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience managing or leading a professional engineering workforce
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a collaborative, matrixed, and cross-functional environment
  • Solid understanding of mechanical development lifecycles, design verification, and product release processes
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute across multiple projects in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
  • Proven experience identifying technical and organizational risks and driving mitigation plans
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with test and measurement products or other precision instrumentation
  • Experience with thermal design, vibration/shock analysis, EMI considerations, and mechanical packaging for electronics
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, mechanical simulation, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams
  • Strong systems-level thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
