The Opportunity
The Cross-Functional Engineer - Systems works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostics Division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.
The Cross-Functional Engineer - Systems is a member of the Systems Engineering team. This position will conduct cross-functional investigations utilizing a combination of hands-on testing and big data analysis. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in at least two of the following functional areas: software engineering, mechanical/hardware engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry/materials science, and data analytics.
What You'll Work On
  • Conduct on-market technical assessments of large data sets using a combination of SQL, AI agents, and statistical software. Assess accuracy and sources of information. Explain data in a manner consistent with the target audience. Challenge conclusions when necessary.
  • Provide technical input to cross-functional investigation teams. Find root cause of system-level issues. Propose possible technical solutions; communicate progress and conclusions to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Promote collaboration with various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, research and development, manufacturing).
  • Participate in special studies or experiments to improve system quality/reliability and define new components, products or processes.
  • Serve as independent reviewer to determine system level impacts of proposed design changes. Conduct design reviews and/or testing to assess performance against design specifications and identify potential system interactions.
  • Support system-level risk management process.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related Engineering/Scientific Field.
  • 3+ years of relevant, well-rounded experience.
  • Ability to apply principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance
  • Demonstrated Customer Focus, making their needs a primary focus of one's actions.
  • Experience leading complex system and risk analysis.
  • Ability to lead and utilize data to make decisions and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of System Engineering principles or concepts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with scripting in python
  • Experience with log analysis in SQL and Automation with JUMP
