JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut seeks a proactive, collaborative and skilled programmer/analyst to join the Information Technology Services (ITS) team as a Software Developer 2. In this full-time position, you will play a pivotal role in supporting, developing, and optimizing enterprise applications and integrations that enable critical university business functions. Your responsibilities will span the entire software lifecycle-from analysis and design to implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing production support.
You will collaborate closely with technical and business stakeholders, vendors, and management to diagnose and resolve system errors, enhance system functionality, and ensure seamless integration across platforms. The position requires documenting technical modifications, developing automated processes, and producing comprehensive reports on project work. You will also contribute to planning and executing software implementations and upgrades, supporting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university information as part of the University Information Security Program.
As a Software Developer 2, you will leverage in-depth technical expertise to design and support IT services in a multi-tiered environment, supporting programming activities, and develop procedures to improve system performance and efficiency. You will carry out larger technical tasks with minimal assistance, contribute to cross-functional project teams, and help ensure the reliability and availability of critical services.
This role offers the opportunity to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, supporting technical projects and driving innovation in university IT systems.
**This is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 days in the office (not fully remote)**
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Diagnose and resolve system errors; collaborate with functional users to troubleshoot and remediate software-related issues.
  • Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to identify and remediate system integration problems.
  • Design and implement automated processes and scripts to enhance system functionality and streamline operations.
  • Collaborate with vendors, management, and cross-functional teams to design, develop, maintain, and enhance software systems and system integrations.
  • Collaborate with senior technical personnel to plan, coordinate, and develop strategies for software development, upgrades, implementations, and ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of changes to hardware, software, and operational procedures.
  • Execute technical tasks of moderate to large scope with minimal assistance and prepare summaries of technical project work.
  • Contribute to technical projects as an integral member of cross-functional teams.
  • Develop plans and processes to ensure continuous availability and reliability of services and systems.
  • Create procedures, techniques, and programs to analyze and improve the performance and efficiency of software systems.
  • Support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.
  • Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Associates degree and 6 years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related experience OR 8 years of related experience.
  2. Experience with web application MVC framework, such as CodeIgniter
  3. Experience with PHP language.
  4. Experience with Git-based version control systems (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket with Pipelines), including branching, merging, and pull request workflows.
  5. Experience with SourceTree, Visual Studio Code (VS Code), Dreamweaver, or similar IDE tools.
  6. Experience with web development framework, such as Bootstrap.
  7. Experience with SQL and relational databases, such as Oracle and SQL Server.
  8. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience with Oracle databases.
  2. Experience with REST APIs.
  3. Experience with application servers such as Apache, or Tomcat.
  4. Experience using HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS.
  5. Experience with Atlassian SDLC tools, such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Pipelines.
  6. Experience with unix scripting, such as cron jobs.
  7. Experience with Boomi or a comparable iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service) solution (e.g., MuleSoft, Workato, Informatica, SnapLogic)
  8. Experience with AI frameworks and tools for creating and deploying generative or agentic AI agents in production environments.
  9. Two (2) years of professional work experience in a Higher Education setting.
