Job description

Director of Children’s Ministries - St. George’s Episcopal Church

Director of Children’s Ministries

At St. George’s Episcopal Church, we help children and families discover God’s unconditional love through Scripture. We equip children to become lifelong followers of Christ, build faith and community, and share Christ’s love through service and outreach.

We are a resource-size parish that is called to receive, live, and share the abundant life of Jesus Christ, through worship, fellowship, formation, and outreach to the world.

We are seeking a full-time Director of Children’s Ministries to work with our Family Ministries team to assist our parish to fulfill our congregation’s promise at baptism to “do all in our power to support these children in their life in Christ.”

The Director of Children’s Ministries will lead a growing and vibrant Christian formation program for children from birth through 6th grade, utilizing Scripture, liturgy, sacraments, and the Anglican tradition to help families grow in the love and knowledge of God.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programming & Curriculum for children from Birth – 6th Grade

  • Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate the vision of St. George’s children’s ministries, including the scope and sequence of Sunday School curriculum and other children’s ministries programs.
  • Visit Sunday School classes and Kids’ Chapel regularly to teach, build relationships, and assess effectiveness.
  • Oversee and direct monthly “4-5-6 Club” fellowship events for upper elementary students.
  • Build relationships with parents through communication strategies, vision sharing, and informal gatherings.

2. Liturgical Leadership & Event Planning

  • Coordinate current Family Ministries events, e.g., Advent Wreath Party, Mardi Gras Party, Easter Egg Hunt, and VBS
  • Plan children's liturgical services for feast days, including Ash Wednesday, Stations of the Cross, Pentecost, Christmas pageant, etc.

3. Leadership, Collaboration & Administration

  • Recruit, train, and equip adult volunteers for Sunday School and other children's ministries.
  • Develop spiritual formation and professional development opportunities for Children’s Ministries and Family Staff.
  • Co-lead the Parents’ Children Ministries Committee and coordinate grade-level fellowship events.
  • Partner with the Director of Outreach to help develop family service opportunities.
  • Work with the Family Ministries Administrator on event planning, calendaring, volunteer scheduling, logistics, budgeting, and communications.

Requirements

  • Faith: A strong, personal Christian faith with an appreciation of the Anglican tradition.
  • Experience: Creative, adaptable, and resourceful with 5 or more years of relevant experience in children/youth ministries focused on discipleship and spiritual formation.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Education/formation in children’s ministries preferably.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office, Canva, Sign Up Genius, and Constant Contact.

Hours: Full-time Monday – Thursday 8:30am–4:30pm, 4 – 6 hours on Sundays, and events as scheduled

Compensation: $60,000 + competitive benefits & Episcopal Church Pension
