Role SummaryThe Commercial AV Project Foreman combines the advanced technical capability of a Level 3 Technician with the field leadership responsibilities of a Lead Technician. This role is responsible for leading on-site installation teams, ensuring quality execution of complex AV systems, and serving as the primary field liaison between the installation crew, Project Manager, clients, general contractors, and IT teams.
The Project Foreman must be capable of independently commissioning complete AV systems, configuring control and DSP platforms, troubleshooting at a system level, and managing the daily workflow of field teams. This is not just a senior installer-it is a field leadership role that directly impacts project outcomes, client satisfaction, and team development.
This role requires 3-5+ years of commercial AV installation experience with demonstrated leadership ability.
Core ResponsibilitiesField Leadership & Project ExecutionLead on-site installation teams across commercial AV projects from rough-in through commissioning.
Serve as the primary field point of contact with Project Managers, clients, general contractors, architects, and IT teams.
Interpret and execute from complete project documentation including AV drawings, rack elevations, signal flow diagrams, one-line diagrams, and network schematics.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to company quality standards.
Identify and communicate job-site risks, issues, scope changes, and change order needs proactively.
Manage daily task sequencing, crew assignments, and material staging.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites while enforcing installation standards and OSHA compliance.
Read and redline drawings and document as-built conditions and field changes.
Advanced System Installation & ConfigurationInstall, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling including Cat6/6A, fiber, coax, speaker, control, and shielded audio cable in accordance with AVIXA and TIA standards.
Build, wire, dress, and label equipment racks including power sequencing, UPS integration, and thermal management.
Install and configure commercial AV systems including:
Displays, video walls, LED walls, projectors, projection screens, lifts, and mounting systems.
Audio systems including DSPs, amplifiers, speakers, microphones, mixers, EQs, compressors, and processors.
Control systems (Crestron, Extron, etc.) utilizing IR, RF, IP, CEC, and RS-232 protocols.
Video conferencing platforms including Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and Poly.
Digital signage and content distribution systems.
Lighting control, motorized shade control, and surveillance integration.
Conference room accessories including cable cubbies, floor boxes, and camera systems.
Control Systems & DSP ProgrammingUpload, download, and perform field modifications to control system programs.
Configure and modify DSP programming using platforms such as Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS, and Extron.
Configure and tune audio systems including gain structure, EQ, routing, zoning, and speaker optimization.
Utilize AV software tools including Crestron Toolbox, Biamp Tesira Software, Extron Global Configurator, and QSC Q-SYS Designer.
Networking & AV-over-IPStrong understanding of networking fundamentals including:
OSI Layers 1-3
IP addressing
Subnetting
VLANs
Basic switching
Configure AV devices on managed networks and coordinate with client IT teams.
Experience with AV-over-IP technologies including Dante, AES67, AVB, NDI, and SDVoE.
Configure managed switches and perform basic network troubleshooting.
Understand wireless RF environments for microphones and control systems.
System Commissioning & TroubleshootingCommission commercial AV systems ranging from conference rooms to large presentation and professional audio environments.
Perform signal verification, audio tuning, video calibration, and overall system optimization.
Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving cabling, hardware, programming, networking, and system configuration.
Complete final testing, punch-list items, and client walkthroughs.
Ensure systems meet performance expectations prior to project completion.
Team Development & AccountabilityTrain and mentor junior technicians on installation techniques, troubleshooting, and company standards.
Delegate work effectively based on technician skill levels.
Ensure accurate time reporting and daily project documentation.
Maintain accountability for installation quality, safety, and professionalism.
Provide feedback regarding technician performance and development opportunities.

ADA requirements and applicable building codes
AVIXA CTS or CTS-I certification is expected. CTS-I preferred.
Required Qualifications3-5+ years of commercial AV installation experience.
2+ years in a Lead, Senior, or Foreman-level technician role preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in advanced AV installation and commissioning.
Proven ability to lead field teams and manage project execution.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Thorough understanding of audio/video signal flow and system commissioning.
Ability to interpret AV construction documents, rack elevations, and signal flow diagrams.
Experience with control systems, DSP configuration, and networked AV.
Strong communication skills with clients and project stakeholders.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass background and drug screening.
Authorization to work full-time in the United States.
Preferred QualificationsAVIXA CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Manufacturer certifications including Crestron, Biamp, Extron, QSC, Shure, Cisco, or similar.
Experience with Dante, AES67, AVB, NDI, or SDVoE.
Experience supporting Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and Poly environments.
Networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA.
Professional live sound or installed sound experience.
