Job description

Loyola Marymount University will be hiring a one-year full-time Writing Instructor to work in the First-Year Seminar (FFYS) program. Writing Instructors work with First Year Seminar faculty members to introduce students to the spirit of academic excellence and intellectual rigor that guides the community of scholars at Loyola Marymount University. The First Year Seminar is taught by a full-time faculty, who is responsible for the course design and content, and a Writing Instructor, who works with students in various capacities to help develop and refine their writing skills. Thepositioninvolvesofferingwritinginstructionto 6 sections ofFFYS ineach semester (fall andspring).WritingInstructorsare expected to workapproximately5-6hours/week per section assigned.

Responsibilities include leadingregular workshops for students atdifferent stagesofthewritingprocess,offering feedback on drafts, and holding one-on-one conferences and/or office hours todiscusswritingwiththem. You will be part of a team offull-timewritinginstructorswho share ideasonwritingpedagogy,offer occasional eventsforfacultyaboutFYS andwriting, andadviseonwritingassessment.

You will alsohave the opportunity toparticipatein professional development opportunitiesfacilitatedby the Office of the Core Director. It isa great opportunityto learn more about the university and developyourteachingskills. Atthis moment,thispositionisforone-year only.
