Job description

Epsilon Systems Solutions is seeking a full time Valve Technician II in San Diego, CA.
Job Summary : The position will test, repair and overhaul valves and assist other trades in the Valve Shop as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoots, disassembles, inspects, repairs, overhauls, and tests valves to include those used in the following systems: lube oil, fuel, firemain, potable water, freshwater, sonar, AFFF, and various other shipboard systems. Valve types worked on include: butterfly, gate, globe, check including swing-check, pressure reducing, Cla-Val, relief, Marotta fuel and air manifolds, and Leslie regulating and solenoid-operated pilot valves (SOPVs).
  • Provides training to ships' force personnel on proper valve overhaul procedures under Fleet Valve Services.
  • Communicates with ships' force and shop management regarding required equipment for in-depth troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Performs relief valve testing using pop test stand in accordance with ships' Preventative Maintenance System (PMS) requirements for all shipboard systems.
  • Troubleshoots, disassembles, inspects, repairs, overhauls, and tests VLS Deluge Valves in compliance with requirements of FWPs and other approved technical references.
  • Troubleshoots, disassembles, inspects, repairs, overhauls, and tests Marotta fuel and air manifold valves.
  • Utilizes shop test stand to test and properly set manifold reliefs and regulators to correct system parameters provided in FWPs, technical manuals, and other approved technical references.
  • Performs functional flow testing, troubleshoots, and repairs on SCBA harnesses.
  • Performs hydrostatic testing of SCBA cylinders in accordance with FWPs, equipment technical manuals, and other approved technical references.
  • Inspects, disassembles, overhauls, and hydrostatically tests fossil-fueled boiler burner barrel and assemblies in accordance with FWPs equipment technical manuals and other approved technical references.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years' experience maintaining machinery
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIDS or CAC as required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications, as required by specific area of support. (Training timeline and support will be provided):

  1. PQS 301 Craftsman Qualification
  2. Department of Transportation (DOT) Hydrostatic Testing of SCBA Cylinders certification (shop will coordinate and schedule in-house training)
  3. Scott Safety Certification of Functional Flow and Repair of SCBA Harnesses (shop will coordinate and schedule in-house training
  4. In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) Certification for Vertical Launch System (VLS) Deluge Valve Overhaul, Repair and Test (shop will coordinate and schedule in-house training)
  5. Category 3 Crane Operator, required to position valves in camelbacks.

Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is $23.48 - $26.26 Hourly. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to, business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

  • Work is accomplished in which parts of systems worked on, are in hard to reach places requiring the need to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and climb
  • Requires walking, standing, climbing stairs, visual skills, manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairway (onboard ships).
  • Noisy conditions & Industrial work environment.
  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
