ABOUT TREAD

At Tread Athletics, we're a team of competitive problem-solvers, leaders, and former athletes driven by a core mission of helping baseball players reach their athletic potential.

Each year, there are hundreds of thousands of high school baseball players and tens of thousands of college and pro players fighting to make the most of their careers, often without the knowledge, guidance, or resources that would allow them to keep up in the increasingly competitive landscape of amateur and pro baseball.

We're fixing that by providing the information, resources, and guidance to help them squeeze everything out of their careers.

A couple of stats:

  • Since 2015, we've served over 7,000 unique athletes, from high school players chasing scholarships to MLB All-Stars looking to maximize career earnings
  • 300+ Draft Picks & MLB Free Agent Signs
  • 30+ MLB debuts and too many college scholarships to track

We believe in telling athletes the truth, doing the hard work, and building relationships that last well beyond a single season. If that's the kind of organization you want to represent, you'll feel at home here.

PERFORMANCE DEPARTMENT VISION

We are building a team as competitive about their craft as the athletes they serve. We want people who hold themselves to a high standard, seek growth, and are motivated by genuine impact, not just a paycheck.

Top performers here will have a clear path to expanded scope, opportunities as they emerge, and materially higher earnings as we scale.

We promote based on results, not tenure.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Performance Coaches occupy a unique space in the player development world, training thousands of baseball players remotely year-round, from high schoolers to perennial MLB All-Stars, while also working with hundreds of athletes on-site at our state-of-the-art, 33,000 sq. ft. Headquarters in Charlotte, NC.

This is not a seasonal gig with 12-hour days on the training floor and 11 PM close times. Our hybrid model gives you the continuity players need to actually develop, and the breathing room coaches need to dig into real problems and create sustained results.

As you build toward a full athlete workload, you'll own all foundational pillars of your players' development: throwing biomechanics, programming, pitch design and analytics, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and the mental game.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • You played at a high level and left the game hungry, not burned out. You miss competing, and coaching is how you channel that.
  • You're not looking for a 9-to-5. You want a craft to master, athletes to actually impact, and a team that pushes you to be better.
  • You've coached long enough to know what you don't know, and that excites you instead of scaring you.
  • You think in systems. When an athlete isn't improving, your first instinct is to diagnose the problem, not defend your process.
  • You want to be in a room with the best coaches in the country, people who will make you significantly better, faster than you would anywhere else.
  • You want access to technology and data most coaches never touch, and the mentorship to actually know what to do with it.
  • You want to work with elite athletes. Not just talk about it.
  • You want to grow fast. Coaches here develop more in 12 months than most do in 5 years, because the feedback loops, resources, and talent around you are unlike anything else in the industry.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

Coaching infrastructure you won't find elsewhere. Full access to a Biomechanics Team with markerless motion capture, Trackman (5+ units), HitTrax, Edgertronic, force plates, and high-end analytics software, plus a dedicated Data & Analytics Team to support your work.

A real development path. Regular in-services and continuing education keep your skillset growing. Top performers have a clear track to expanded responsibilities and six-figure total compensation. We promote from within.

A team worth being part of. 40+ passionate Performance Coaches. A collaborative, results-oriented culture. People who hold each other accountable because they actually care about outcomes.

Stability with upside. Year-round employment. Minimal travel. Traditional work hours allow for the stability not seen in other high-turnover baseball career paths. A livable base salary as you learn, with a higher total comp path well above that for proven performers.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and produce measurable results with your assigned athlete workload
  • Participate in scheduled floor hours with in-house athletes
  • Build genuine relationships with your athletes, ones that lead to retention and referrals
  • Collaborate with our Content team, as needed, to produce high-quality educational materials
  • Show up for company events and contribute to in-services, in-house research, and special projects as needed

Results

  • Maintain athlete retention rates that reflect the quality of your coaching relationships. KPIs to be discussed during the interview process.
  • Consistent technical improvement across your assigned roster
  • Feedback and content contributions that reflect deep baseball and performance knowledge

Requirements

  • 1-3+ years of experience coaching pitchers with a demonstrable track record of results
  • High-level proficiency in throwing biomechanics
  • Working knowledge of strength & conditioning, anatomy, pitch design, corrective exercise, and performance nutrition
  • Collegiate playing experience or higher, with evidence of personal development
  • 80-grade written and verbal communication skills. You can explain complex concepts clearly to a 16-year-old and a big leaguer in the same day

COMPENSATION

  • $54-$72k base salary + performance-based bonus structure
  • Full compensation structure will be discussed on interview
  • Final starting salary will be based on several factors, including relevant prior experience, skills, and expertise
  • The value of our benefits package is not included in this base and is in addition to the final figure
  • Join a fast-paced, results-oriented culture
  • Own the outcomes & develop your skills with a core group of driven, motivated pitchers

BENEFITS

Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance plus 401(k) with employer matching.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Athlete First

Every decision we make starts with what is actually best for the athlete. We don't take shortcuts that compromise that. Long-term trust matters more than short-term outcomes.

Problem-Solvers

We don't wait for perfect information. We assess, adapt, and find a way forward for athletes and for ourselves. That applies to how we coach, how we build, and how we operate.

Relentless

We don't quit on athletes, and we don't quit on ourselves. That standard applies on the phone, in the gym, and everywhere in between.
