Description
Job Description: Wide Angle Youth Media is seeking candidates for Production Interns. This is a full-time position and is designed to give young professionals a launchpad for a career in digital media. The position includes on-the-job training as Interns work on video and photography projects for real-world clients. This work includes a combination of pre-production, production, and post-production roles. Production work will occur on location throughout Maryland.
Production Interns must be available on Mondays for planning meetings, training, and 1-on-1 coaching. Applicants must have a flexible schedule to join our team for video production days based on client schedules. Production days typically occur Tues-Fri, but sometimes also fall on weekends. WAP works to ensure that production days are communicated at least 2 weeks in advance. Wide Angle Productions utilizes a hybrid remote position; While we do video production, meetings, and editing work in-person, we also use Slack and Google Meet to work remotely if authorized by a supervisor.
This is a 12-month position, with the option of continuing into a longer commitment with Wide Angle Productions. Interns will also be enrolled in Service Year, a Maryland-based workforce development program that runs from August 2026 through July 2027. After completing Service Year, Interns will have the option to apply for an Arts2Work Apprenticeship position with Wide Angle Productions. This is also a full-time position, and includes additional career development training and typically takes 6 months to complete. Hourly pay starts at $15.00, with full benefits (insurance, paid holidays, and paid vacation). At the completion of Service year, Production Interns will receive a $6,000 education bonus, as well as a raise as Interns move into the Arts2Work Apprenticeship.

Wide Angle Productions provides a wide range of media services, including:
  • Commercials: US Soccer Foundation , LGBT Tech , and WAYM promo ,
  • Short Documentaries: Angel Rivera , Frostburg Derby Day , Irish Traditional Music , Smith Island Broadband Initiative , Under Armour: Coaches , and West African Indigo Dyeing .
  • Short scripted content, such as PSAs: " Chainsaw PSA " and short narratives like " Distant ."
  • Animations: " Stretching for Better Health " and " SOUL Family "
  • Event videos: " Baltimore Homecoming .
  • We also do still photography, including event documentation, portraiture, and editorial photos.
  • AND we support our producers to create their own short content: For example, this entry into the 2025 48-hour film festival and " Save My School ."

Tasks for Production Interns may include:
  • Representing WAYM: By going to networking events or meeting with potential clients.
  • Pre-Production: Working with us to develop pitches and present to clients, writing scripts, drafting interview questions, making storyboards, and holding casting auditions.
  • Production: Working with cameras, lighting, audio, and other production equipment, as well as working directly with interview subjects and talent in producer or director roles.
  • Post-Production: Assisting with editing tasks such as organizing media assets in Adobe Premiere. Building b-roll stringers and quote assemblies. Creating full drafts of projects, and participating in review sessions with Wide Angle staff and/or clients.
  • Meetings: attending mandatory weekly meetings with Wide Angle Productions and/or the larger Wide Angle Youth Media team.

  • This program is designed for developing professionals, typically between the ages of 18-26.
  • Must be available for full-time work starting in August, 2026
  • Must demonstrate skills in key media areas, such as writing, camera operation, lighting for video, audio production, still photography, graphic design, editing, client relations, and/or public speaking.
  • Applicants must have a flexible schedule to join our team for video production days based on client schedules. Production days typically occur Tues-Fri, but we often work on weekends as well. Wide Angle Productions works to ensure that production days are communicated at least 2 weeks in advance.
  • Must be willing to commit to the internship for up to 18 months. Wide Angle Productions is open to longer-term commitments for individuals looking to grow into bigger roles with WAP and/or within Wide Angle Youth Media. Our internship program runs as follows:
  • From August 2026 to July 2027, Production Interns are enrolled in Service Year, a Maryland Program that provides professional development training to complement the job-specific training that Wide Angle will provide. Typically, Production Interns spend about 10% of their time engaged in Service Year professional development.
  • After completing Service Year, from July 2027 to Dec 2027, Production Interns move into an Apprenticeship, provided in partnership with Arts2Work, a national leader in media workforce training. Arts2Work will provide additional training, mentoring, and coaching to help Apprentices advance their careers.

Additional Expectations:
  • Clear and consistent communications: respond to emails and phone calls within 24 hours and communicate quickly in the event of scheduling problems.
  • Must have a working cell phone.
  • Be on time to all work commitments.
  • Be ready and excited to work, learn, and support the Wide Angle team.
  • Must uphold our values and act professionally while working with Wide Angle Productions.
  • Wide Angle prefers applicants who are also engaged in media production in school and/or work outside of Wide Angle. We find that Production Interns grow the most when they are actively making work with our team and on their own.
  • Wide Angle prefers to work with applicants residing in Baltimore City or Baltimore County.

  • Opportunities to learn and use professional media production equipment, such as Red cinema cameras, Aputure lighting, and professional audio tools.
  • Opportunities to learn and refine professional editing skills in Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, and other editing software.
  • We also have a take-home camera kit (Sony FS7) that our team members can check out for personal and/or freelance projects. Take-home kit access is earned after 500 hours of work.
  • Hourly wages for Production Interns start at $15 per hour and Service Year includes a $6K education award upon completion of Service Year. Raises are built in as Production Interns move into the Arts2Work Apprentice at the completion of Service Year.
  • As a full-time position, Production Interns receive a full benefits package including health insurance, paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation.
