Are you a motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer ready to make a tangible impact on national security? Join HII's Mission Technologies division in Columbia, MD, and become a pivotal player in the evolution of the Minotaur Mission Management System.
Minotaur is a cutting-edge software suite that empowers operators of manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft by ingesting and processing critical data from diverse sensors. Your expertise will directly enhance their ability to identify and track targets across land and sea, contributing to vital intelligence-gathering operations.
In this dynamic role, you won't just maintain; you'll innovate! You'll design, implement, integrate, and test new and improved capabilities for an operationally fielded system, working across the entire software engineering lifecycle.
While projects may evolve, current initiatives are focused on revolutionizing airborne sensor data exploitation through advanced object tracking, multi-sensor correlation, and intuitive operational data displays.
Your impactful contributions could include:
  • Directly collaborating with customers to shape the product backlog for your Scrum team.
  • Designing and implementing groundbreaking proof-of-concept prototypes that span a diverse range of engineering disciplines, including control theory, signal/video processing, machine learning, AI, high-performance computing, and more.
  • Supporting prototype evaluations and experimental operations at military facilities.
  • Participating in system integration events on various aircraft during ground and flight tests.
  • Developing and testing software interfaces for critical ISR sensors like RADAR, SIGINT, and EO/IR systems.
  • Potentially flying on aircraft to support system integration and train operators.
  • Designing intuitive graphical user interfaces that directly meet customer demands.
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, fostering their growth and expertise.
  • Leading a small team of developers, guiding them to success.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in software development involving programming languages such as Java and/or C++
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a security clearance
  • Willingness to work in Columbia, MD in a hybrid environment

Preferred Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience with software development of algorithms, computer networking and interfaces in a cutting edge environment
  • Prior experience with Minotaur Mission Management System
  • Prior experience with Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a close team environment
  • Previous leadership experience or willingness to lead and mentor others
