Job description

Job Summary:The Service Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting school transportation vehicles to ensure they meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards.Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performs routine checks on engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and safety equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic issues, including diesel/gasoline/propane engines, transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Ensure vehicles meet DOT, state, and local safety regulations, including steering and suspension work, tire repair, and accident repairs.
  • Maintain fleet appearance, document work, and report maintenance needs to operations staff.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read job orders and diagnosis issues.
  • Ability to work with other repairers within service shop.
  • Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to maintenance vehicles.
  • Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trades.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and preventive maintenance procedures.  
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. CDL preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • You must supply your own general hand tools.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and safety inspections.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
