The Business Outreach Specialist serves as the primary facilitator for the Boots to Business (B2B) and the Boots to Business Reboot curriculum in Nevada and a vital member of the Nevada Veterans Business Outreach Center Program to provide one-on-one business startup consultation and support including business plan development, marketing plan development, financial statement analysis, business formation, access to capital, government contracting assistance and other small business initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Required to provide one-on-one technical assistance and information face-to-face, email, phone, webinar, or other effective communications, including business plan development, mentor referral, access to capital and funding opportunities and other small business resources with support from the SBA, SBDC, SCORE, APEX Accelerator, UTA departments, and other small business community resource partners.
  • While maintaining accurate timely, and up-to-date records of all client interactions and meetings within the designated client portal.
  • Facilitate and deliver the Boots to Business and Boots to Business Reboot curriculum and other entrepreneurial training and outreach activities to include developing and sustaining strong positive relations with Boots to Business program coordinators.
  • Assists in presenting relevant information pertaining to SBA loan programs including but not limited to webinars, workshops, meetings, and short courses.
  • Required to attend local and regional outreach events and act as the unit liaison with outside agencies including the SBA, SBDC, SCORE, APEX Accelerator, local EDCs, other entrepreneurial resource partners and veteran service organizations (VSOs).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Experience consulting with C-level business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Experience or comfortable working with veterans and veteran related service organizations.
  • Experience working with SBDCs, SCORE, APEX Accelerator, SBA, and other entrepreneurial resource partners.
  • Prior business ownership and/or knowledge of the small business startup process.
Preferred Qualifications
  • US military veteran (preferred OEF/OIF/OND).
  • Familiar with the DOD taps boots to business and boots to business reboot curriculum.
  • Experience as a small business consultant and/or startup advisor.
  • Business law, SBA lending, or business accounting background.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent command of the English language; superior reading, writing and speaking skills.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills including empathy, trustworthiness, loyalty, integrity, and diligence.
  • Working knowledge of business enterprises with an entrepreneurial mind-set.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing, accounting, and small business best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Internet research methodologies
  • Develop and maintain successful interpersonal relations and be a team player.
  • Organized and flexible.
  • Knowledge of the use of personal computer, word processing, spreadsheet, database software, and presentation software and equipment
  • Experience or comfortable working with veterans and veteran related service organizations.
