Job description

Program Coordinator – Salomon Farm Park 40 hours per week | Schedule varies and includes some mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Can you lead a team, care for livestock, operate a tractor, and create meaningful farm experiences for families? Salomon Farm Park is looking for a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable planning programs, working outdoors, and welcoming the community.

What You'll Do

Help bring Salomon Farm Park to life through educational programs, community events, farm operations, animal care, and memorable experiences for visitors of all ages. This is not a traditional office-based coordinator position-you will lead people, manage programs, and work alongside your team throughout the farm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead educational programs, Farm Camp, special events, wagon rides, facility rentals, and other community activities.
  • Manage the Salomon Farmers' Market and track program attendance, revenue, expenses, supplies, and equipment.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise 6–20 seasonal employees, part-time staff, volunteers, and contractual workers.
  • Assist with livestock care, pasture and pen maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial work, and the safe operation of tractors, farm equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Communicate with visitors, rental customers, staff, volunteers, and community partners while helping promote programs through photos, social media, and other marketing efforts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises seasonal and part-time employees, volunteers, and contractual staff. Provides training, assigns work, oversees safety and child-protection practices, and fills in for the Farm Supervisor when needed.

What You Bring

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation, education, agriculture, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • At least one year of successful paid supervisory experience in an outdoor recreation, education, farm, or similar setting.
  • Two years of experience developing programs, preparing lesson plans or instructions, and working directly with the public.
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and unexpected situations.
  • A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, perform physical farm-related work, and learn livestock handling and equipment operation.

Required Certifications

  • Valid Indiana driver's license when operating a City vehicle.
  • First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certification-or the ability to obtain it.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

Experience with livestock, tractors, farm equipment, mowers, power tools, outdoor education, or facility operations is helpful. Training may be provided in animal handling, equipment operation, and required safety procedures.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work across uneven terrain, regularly lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and carry the weight at least 10 feet.

Why Work for the City of Fort Wayne?

At Salomon Farm Park, your work connects people with agriculture, nature, local history, and one another. You will help shape programs families remember while caring for a unique community resource.
