Job description

Al's Sporting Goods is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Service Technician Shop Supervisor to lead daily shop operations within our service department. This leadership role oversees a busy repair shop while ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient workflow, and high-quality repair and maintenance work.
The Service Technician Shop Supervisor will lead and support service technicians, assist with diagnostics and repairs, and help maintain the high standards our customers expect. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position focused on bicycles, skis, snowboards, and related equipment. Our ideal candidate has strong mechanical experience, leadership skills, and a passion for outdoor recreation and customer service.
Our service department serves a wide range of cyclists and winter sports enthusiasts, and we work with leading brands including Trek, Specialized, Giant, Scott, Super73, Burton, K2, Rossignol, Salomon, Elan, and more. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, tune-ups, and repairs on bicycles and winter sports equipment, including suspension service, wheel building, overhauls, and ski binding mounts.
  • Manage daily repair workflow by prioritizing jobs, maintaining schedules, and ensuring consistent repair standards.
  • Diagnose equipment issues, identify repair needs, and clearly communicate solutions to both customers and team members.
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of mechanics and technicians while supporting skill development and a positive shop environment.
  • Conduct safety checks and final quality inspections to ensure all equipment meets performance and safety standards.
  • Engage with customers to provide updates, explain repairs, and deliver recommendations on maintenance, upgrades, and service options.
  • Maintain accurate repair records, parts usage logs, and inventory tracking within the shop system.
  • Support sales efforts by assisting customers with product, parts, and service recommendations as needed.

Qualifications
Required
  • 1-3 years of experience in a bike and/or ski service environment, with solid mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair knowledge.
  • Experience servicing bicycles, e-bikes, skis, snowboards, or similar equipment; formal training or certification is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose equipment issues accurately.
  • Working knowledge of general repair practices, safety checks, and standard service procedures.
  • Passion for cycling and winter sports with a good understanding of related products and equipment.
  • Strong leadership potential with the ability to guide, support, and motivate a team of technicians.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, including the ability to explain repairs and recommendations clearly.
  • Ability to manage workflow, stay organized, and help maintain an efficient, productive shop environment.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and consistency in all work performed and reviewed.Must be 18+ and able to lift 25-50+ lbs, with availability including evenings, weekends, and peak retail periods.

    • What is the schedule for this job?
    • The schedule for this position includes full-time hours of 40 per week, with day shifts available Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Shifts are scheduled in 8-hour blocks.
      Some occasional Saturday work and holiday availability may be required. Employees must also be available to work during all major sales events throughout the year.
