Experity is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the OnePACS medical imaging platform. OnePACS is a cloud-based PACS platform supporting radiology groups, teleradiology providers, imaging centers, and healthcare organizations that depend on reliable, high-volume diagnostic imaging workflows. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on architecture, technical direction, hands-on engineering, mentorship, and modernization. The ideal candidate brings strong Java engineering experience, practical knowledge of medical imaging workflows, and the ability to lead complex technical work across legacy and modern systems. This role is not a people management position. Success is measured by technical impact, platform reliability, engineering quality, and the ability to help teams build scalable, maintainable systems

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership across the OnePACS platform and related imaging workflows.

  • Design, develop, maintain, and modernize Java-based platform services and applications.

  • Lead architecture and design discussions for scalability, reliability, security, interoperability, compliance, and maintainability.

  • Support modernization of legacy platform components while maintaining production stability.

  • Partner with Engineering, Product, QA, DevOps, Implementation, and Support to improve platform reliability and operational readiness.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues involving application behavior, DICOM workflows, HL7 interfaces, routing, configuration, and customer-specific scenarios.

  • Mentor engineers through technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.

  • Improve documentation, runbooks, diagnostics, and repeatable support patterns.

  • Help reduce technical risk by making critical system knowledge more durable, visible, and broadly shared.

  • Contribute to strategic product initiatives involving imaging workflow automation, reporting, AI integrations, DICOM router modernization, viewer modernization, and interoperability improvements.

  • Work within Agile/Scrum delivery practices to support predictable planning, execution, and continuous improvement.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field of equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • At least ten years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience building and supporting production systems in Java.

  • Experience providing technical leadership in complex, business-critical platforms.

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, performance, scalability, and production reliability.

  • Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy systems.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application code, configuration, infrastructure, data, and external integrations.

  • Ability to communicate technical risk, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without relying on formal authority.

  • Strong documentation habits and a practical approach to building repeatable engineering practices.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Medical Imaging and Interoperability Experience:

Experience with several of the following is strongly preferred:

  • PACS, RIS, VNA, or radiology workflow platforms

  • DICOM networking, routing, storage, retrieval, or troubleshooting

  • DICOM router or customer-deployed integration software

  • DCM4CHE or similar DICOM tooling

  • HL7 interfaces or healthcare integration patterns

  • Teleradiology workflows

  • Medical image ingestion, lifecycle, retention, or routing

  • Imaging modalities and customer-specific workflow configuration

  • Voice recognition, structured reporting, AI imaging, or diagnostic workflow integrations

  • FDA-regulated software, medical device software, or healthcare compliance environments

Technical Experience:

Experience with several of the following is preferred:

  • Java and JVM-based application architecture

  • Java web applications or backend services

  • Spring or comparable Java frameworks

  • Hibernate, JPA, or comparable persistence patterns

  • Maven, Gradle, or comparable build tooling

  • SQL and relational database design

  • REST APIs and integration patterns

  • .NET Windows applications, especially viewers, study retrievers, DICOM routers, or related imaging applications

  • Docker, ECS, Kubernetes, Terraform, or comparable platform tooling

  • AWS or comparable cloud platforms

  • Observability, logging, metrics, alerting, and production diagnostics

  • Secure software development practices in healthcare or other regulated environments

Travel:

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Background:

The strongest candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • PACS, RIS, VNA, radiology, teleradiology, or medical imaging platforms

  • Healthcare interoperability or integration platforms

  • Legacy Java platform modernization

  • High-volume, customer-facing SaaS platforms

  • Distributed systems requiring strong production reliability and operational discipline

  • FDA-regulated healthcare technology or medical device software environments

Leadership Expectations:

The Staff Software Engineer will be expected to:
