Job description

Position: Melt Manager
Location: Conway, SC
Type: Full-time | On-site
Responsibilities of Position:
  • Safety - set expectations to maintain a safe and organized workplace, lead by example, ensure environmental compliance, hold daily safety talks, make daily observations and conduct Safety and Housekeeping Audits.
  • Primary Responsibility for all aspects of Melt personnel (up to 20) including scheduling, training and performance reviews.
  • Primary Responsibility for MF Refractory repairs and relines.
  • Primary Responsibility for Maintenance/Engineering Liaison for non-AR level Melt and RMSB (raw material storage building) repairs and projects.
  • Conduct RMSB charge coordination, raw materials inventory, chemistry control and corrections, and Melt process, as required.
  • Maintain melt webpage with required communications to operate the plant on a 24-hour basis.
  • Write, review, and update all procedures/work instructions and forms in ISO 9000 QC system and Melt Intranet for the melting of all alloys.
  • Actively participate in the quality process including resolution of CARS.
  • Arrange all melt X-trials, collect experimental data and samples, compile and interpret the results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Success Factors:
  • Communicate all performance expectations including safe work practices to all melt personnel.
  • Drive webpage initiatives in melt areas.
  • Provide consistent and timely performance feedback to employees throughout the melting operation.
  • Solicit feedback from plant personnel on opportunities to improve processes (yields, procedures, methods, etc.).
  • Continuously monitor & revise melt area ISO documents as required.
  • Effectively integrate with the other crew leaders to deliver casting production and quality objectives.
  • Ability to work with engineers / metallurgists to execute trials and implement improvements.

Attributes/Skills Required/Sought:
  • Ability to communicate with all plant personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills ... Excellent listening skills.

  • Self-starter: highly motivated individual with the ability to solve problems / resolve issues and multi-task.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Ability to take instructions and follow through with minimal supervision.
  • Work on plant floor at least 70% of the time
  • Create and conduct performance reviews for melt department team.
  • Manage department employees' performance and attendance, and issue coaching and discipline as/if needed.
  • Will be required to create and present PowerPoint presentations to leaders and plant staff as/when needed/required.
  • Ability to perform required physical work as and when needed to run the department successfully, to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays as/when/if needed.

Experience/Education Required/Sought:
  • Proven leadership and organizational ability.
  • Induction melt experience strongly preferred
  • Furnace maintenance including furnace relining
  • user in MS Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • 5 years related experience in manufacturing.
  • ***Due to ITAR requirements, must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder/Permanent US Resident, and able to provide proof initially.
