Job description

Description
Position Summary
The Research Assistant Level 1 will support the standardized implementation of study protocols, including participant recruitment, cognitive assessments, data entry, data management, and quality assurance activities. The position requires handling data collected in Korean and active participation in data preparation and analysis. The Research Assistant will support recruitment and data collection among Korean American older adults using validated and translated assessment instruments, clinical diagnostic protocols, DNA and plasma biomarker collection procedures, and SNP genotyping-related research activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Administer standardized cognitive assessment batteries and conduct in-person interviews with older adults, including individuals with cognitive impairment.
  2. Develop and maintain a surveillance registry of potential participants and coordinate participant scheduling and follow-up activities.
  3. Enter, verify, and manage research data while maintaining data quality and confidentiality.
  4. Assist with preparation of study reports, recruitment summaries, and data management activities.
  5. Demonstrate professionalism, strong work performance, and adherence to research ethics and participant confidentiality standards.
  6. Participate in study meetings, training activities, and quality assurance procedures, including double-scoring and protocol fidelity monitoring.

Project Title: Asian Cohort for Alzheimer's Disease (ACAD)
Overall Goal: To recruit 5,081 Asian older adults across the United States and Canada. The study collects DNA and plasma biomarkers, genotypes, social determinants of health, and clinical diagnostic information.
NYU Site Focus: To recruit approximately 800 Korean American older adults (aged 60 years and older), including cognitively healthy and cognitively impaired individuals, from community settings throughout the Northeastern United States.
Position Details:
Approximate Dates:This is a full-time, six-month appointment (based on start date), with the possibility of extension based on continued grant funding, project needs, and satisfactory performance.
Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed-term, grant-funded position.
Expected Work Hours:35 hours per week. While the standard schedule is Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., flexibility is required as participant recruitment and data collection frequently occur in community settings based on participant availability.
Work Location: Hybrid position requiring at least two in-person days per week on designated NYU attendance days, with additional field-based work in community settings.
In compliance with New York City's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $45,000. New York University considers factors such as available grant funding, experience, qualifications, and the terms of the sponsored project when making compensation decisions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Psychology, Gerontology, Data Management, or a related field.
  2. Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English, including the ability to work with Korean-language cognitive and health assessment instruments.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with structured interviews, cognitive assessments, or clinical research data collection.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive participant information.
  5. Experience with data collection, database management, project tracking, and research documentation.
  6. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Korean or Korean American older adults in community-based settings.
  • Experience conducting cognitive assessments or dementia-related research.
  • Educational training in Nursing, Psychology, Neuropsychology, Public Health, or Gerontology completed in Korea and/or the United States.
  • Experience with REDCap or other research data management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary research team.
