Job description

The City of Clayton is accepting applications for the Municipal Service Technician I position for the Parks Maintenance Department. The purpose of Municipal Service Technician I position is to perform manual maintenance work for the Parks Maintenance Department. Technicians may be assigned specific areas of responsibility within a department, so not all duties may apply to all positions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the Municipal Service Technician I:

  • Delivers a safe and excellent customer service experience to residents and patrons.
  • Maintains and cleans park ground, structures, fixtures and the associated sites, including the cleaning of restroom facilities and emptying garbage and/or trash cans.
  • Assists with landscape maintenance to include tree pruning and removal; tree planting, installation of annual and perennial plantings; landscape bed maintenance; mulch application; and fall leaf collection.
  • Mows and trims the parks by operating hand and riding mowers and power trimmers.
  • Assists in the maintenance and operation of the tennis center, and aquatic center as well as park facilities.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and volleyball courts.
  • Assists with emergency snow removal and city wide storm clean-up.
  • Assists in the seasonal opening and closing of aquatic complex, tennis center and sports complex.
  • Operates small trucks, tractors, mowers and auxiliary maintenance equipment to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Assists with the set-up, operation and tear-down of Park and City events.

Minimum Qualifications for the Municipal Service Technician I:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One (1) year previous work experience in general park maintenance, landscaping, or facility maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment.
  • Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider and First Aid required within three months of employment.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to prepare parks for events and rental usage.
  • Ability to respond to weather events at any time of day.
