Job description

Frederick Health Medical Group (FHMG), a highly respected 160+ provider, multi-specialty medical group, is seeking a compassionate and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing Radiation Oncology team within a physician-led, community-focused health system.

This is an exceptional opportunity to practice in a collaborative, patient-centered environment alongside experienced radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and support staff dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer care close to home.

About the Role

The Radiation Oncology APP will play a key role in the multidisciplinary management of oncology patients receiving radiation therapy. The APP will work closely with the radiation oncologist to provide clinical assessment, symptom management, survivorship care, patient education, and coordination of care throughout the treatment continuum.

This position offers an outpatient practice with a predictable schedule and the opportunity to develop meaningful long-term relationships with patients and families during their cancer journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including history and physical examinations
  • Manage patients undergoing radiation therapy and provide ongoing symptom assessment and management
  • Evaluate treatment-related toxicities and develop appropriate care plans
  • Provide follow-up and survivorship care for oncology patients
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing within scope of practice
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, side effect management, and supportive care needs
  • Collaborate closely with radiation oncologists and multidisciplinary oncology team members
  • Coordinate care with medical oncology, surgery, primary care, and other specialties as appropriate
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration and quality improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Physician Assistant: Graduation from an accredited PA program
  • Active Maryland license (or ability to obtain)
  • Current DEA license and Maryland Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or approved provider)
  • Unrestricted license with no history of suspension or revocation
  • Eligible for participation with all payers

Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience in medical or radiation oncology or complex chronic disease management preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR experience preferred)
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment
