New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a managing editor with a track record of fostering ambitious audio journalism to manage and edit Civics 101, a podcast about how our democracy works.The Managing Editor is a key editorial leader, helping build NHPR's capacity for telling thoughtful, deeply reported stories. The ideal candidate recognizes that narrative and explanatory journalism can change minds and empower audiences, thinks carefully about story structure, has an ear for surprising audio, and edits with flair. NHPR is committed to building an inclusive environment and strongly encourages applications from members of communities traditionally underrepresented in journalism.This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid-eligible role, reporting to the Director of Podcasts. Applicants must be willing to live within 100 miles of our newsroom, which is headquartered in Concord, New Hampshire. The budgeted salary range is $77,600 - $95,000 depending on qualifications. We also consider internal equity, among other factors, when deciding compensation.Essential Duties Include:Lead the editorial agenda for Civics 101, generate ideas, greenlight pitches, and provide structural, big-picture editing support as well as line edits at the script level.Directly manage, mentor, and support professional growth for a team of two hosts.Provide oversight for research, interviewing, reporting, and fact-checking episodes.Ensure a broad diversity of voices, source perspectives, and subject matters across all broadcast and podcast episodes.Build workflows for multi-media and broadcast content aligned with organizational goals; analyze audience engagement data to inform podcast strategy.Oversee timely production of ad inventory and collaborate with internal partners on fundraising, pledge drives, and strategic monetization campaigns.Work closely with the Director of Podcasts to maintain high journalistic standards, manage shared resources, and foster a positive, supportive culture.Additional Responsibilities Include: Assist with booking guests, interview preparation, publishing, and administrative production elements as needed.Represent Civics 101 and NHPR at live events, public appearances, and partner collaborations.Participate in station-wide committees, all-staff meetings, and station fundraising events.Assist in identifying and advocating for production tools and software upgrades. Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, related subject area, or equivalent practical experience.To be successful in this role, we are looking for 3–5 years of relevant media experience, including at least 2 years directly managing podcast or audio production teams, editing long-form narrative audio, and mentoring editorial staff. Demonstrated strategic editorial judgment, narrative story structuring, project management, and fluency with data analytics. Experience working in video or digital strategy is a plus.Valid driver's license and access to transportation for occasional required travel to the Concord, NH station for events and station activities.Proficiency in at least one digital audio workstation is a must, with Adobe Audition experience a plus.  However, we know there are great candidates who may not have all these qualities or who have important skills we may not have outlined above.
