Department Overview

The Electric Compliance Assurance department is part of the Electric Risk & Compliance organization, where together we will embed compliance and risk in all that we do and achieve regulatory outcomes that support the business’ needs. The work of this department is critical in our efforts to find compliance challenges and identify areas of risk so that we can fix them. The main functions of this department are identifying areas of compliance risk and opportunities to mitigate those risks, including through incident reporting and investigations, overseeing Electric Operations and Power Generation Corrective Action Program (CAP), and validating the controls on the organization. 

Position Summary

PG&E is seeking an experienced business professional to be a member of the Electric Compliance Assurance Team as an Incident Investigator, Principal. The Investigator will be responsible for investigating incidents or items of interest. The investigations could be related to Electric Incidents Reports (EIRs) to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), items of interest to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), or other areas of compliance risk to determine the cause and any corrective or preventive measures to mitigate reoccurrence. 

This role will have a high level of visibility with PG&E leadership and will support one or many aspects of Compliance Assurance’s scope. A strong applicant will be an organized, motivated, curious, a consensus builder, and seeks to understand the “bigger picture”. Location of this position is flexible within PG&E service territory and will requires travel to incident sites and other locations throughout PG&E’s service territory (approximately 10-20% of the time) to coordinate investigations, meetings, and site visits. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned office based on business needs.

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $140,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $189,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $238,000.00

Minimum Base Salary (California)         $133,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California)      $180,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California)        $226,000.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Investigates and manages investigations of medium to high risk to PG&E, including working with PG&Es Legal team. Prepares and submits summary of investigation, including identifying corrective actions and gaining consensus with senior and executive leadership to mitigate risk. 
  • Identifies and summarizes compliance risk concerns, including forecasting potential Notices of Violation (NOVs) or equivalent.
  • Prepares and submits responses to investigations, NOVs, or equivalent.
  • Manages very complex investigations and data analysis projects with very limited supervision from initial request to presenting data results, ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
  • Acts as a thought leader, applying extensive data processing and data analysis expertise in the development of strategy or resolution to complex investigations and/or data sets. 
  • Manages major and complex cross functional data projects that have broad company implications.
  • Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
  • Analyzes data using various advanced statistical tools to develop reports, summaries, and trends.
  • Acts as team lead and provides direction to less experienced employees.
  • Project manages investigations, including building consensus with multiple senior/executive leaders to stay on schedule.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field or equivalent work experience
  • Eight (8) years of related work experience
  • Travel is required (approximately 10% to 20% of the time) to incident sites and other facilities throughout PG&E’s service territory for investigations, meetings, and site visits. 

Desired:

  • BA/BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Science Fields (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • Master’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with electric operation systems (data systems within electric operations).
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills. Advanced communication and presentation skills to deliver highly complex data and findings to Senior and Executive Management.
  • Expertise in project management to lead large, cross functional projects, and develop concise data findings for Senior and Executive Management. 
  • Proven ability to prepare materials for and effectively communicate/present highly complex findings to senior and executive leaders with clarity, gain consensus on path forward on aggressive timelines. 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with critical deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable with escalation to senior and executive leadership.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA)
  • Certification in Root Cause Analysis (e.g., TapRooT®, Cause Mapping, or equivalent)
  • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI – ASIS)
  • Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) – Electrical Engineering preferred; any active PE licensure considered
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
