Description
The PCB & Wiring Harness Assembly QA Specialist is responsible for overseeing the inspection and quality assurance of printed circuit board (PCB) and wiring harness assemblies. This role ensures compliance with applicable standards, verifies workmanship, and leading continuous improvement in quality practices. The ideal candidate is a meticulous professional with firsthand experience in electronics manufacturing and a strong understanding of quality systems, IPC standards, and customer requirements.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Oversight
โ€ข Lead PCB and wiring harness inspections per IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620.
โ€ข Develop and enforce QC plans for in-house and supplier components.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with specs, standards, and documentation.
โ€ข Support root cause analysis and implement CAPAs.
โ€ข Review FAIs, incoming inspections, and in-process audits.
Quality & Compliance
โ€ข Ensure purchasing activities adhere to company policies and compliance standards.
โ€ข Collaborate with QA to verify incoming materials meet specifications and certifications.
โ€ข Assist in supplier audits and maintain records for traceability and regulatory purposes.
Process & Continuous Improvement
โ€ข Identify quality trends and lead initiatives to reduce defects and rework.
โ€ข Provide feedback to assembly teams on quality issues and improvements.
โ€ข Support lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S implementation in QA processes.
Documentation & Reporting
โ€ข Maintain accurate quality records including inspection reports, deviation logs, and corrective actions.
โ€ข Ensure traceability of components and assemblies per ISO, DoD, and customer requirements.
โ€ข Collaborate with engineering and production to review and interpret drawings, BOMs, and test plans.
Technical Support & Training
โ€ข Train assembly personnel on IPC standards and quality procedures.
โ€ข Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on wiring harness and PCB assembly inspections.
โ€ข Mentor team members in identifying quality risks and best inspection practices.
Leadership & Team Development
โ€ข Mentor personnel on QA ensuring alignment with operational needs.
โ€ข Promote accountability, continuous learning, and staff training in QA policies and best practices.
Additional Responsibilities:
โ€ข Maintain project documentation and compliance with ISO-9001and customer-specific standards.
โ€ข Guide teams in interpreting specifications, tolerances, and materials to select proper tools and methods.
โ€ข Train personnel in safe, efficient, and material-appropriate tool use.
โ€ข Promote ergonomic, risk-reducing techniques.
โ€ข Ensure consistent adherence to approved procedures and cleanroom, ESD, and safety protocols.
โ€ข Conduct inspections per the IPC/J-STD, including in-process, final, and incoming material checks.
โ€ข Use precision tools (e.g., micrometers, thread gages) and accurately document inspection results.
โ€ข Identify process trends, assist with corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
โ€ข Enforce build standards while maintaining professionalism, confidence, and accountability.
โ€ข Communicate non-conformances, assist in containment activities, and support quality projects.
โ€ข Maintain organized workspaces in line with 5S principles and retain audit and inspection records.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Certifications
โ€ข Associate or bachelor's degree in Electronics, Quality Engineering, or related field preferred.
โ€ข IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification required.
โ€ข Additional certifications in quality systems (e.g., ASQ CQI, ISO 9001 auditor) are an advantage.
Experience
โ€ข 3+ years in electronics manufacturing quality assurance, preferably with PCB and harness assembly.
โ€ข Experience in DoD or aerospace environments is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
โ€ข Skilled in use of quality inspection tools and equipment.
โ€ข Familiar with ESD-safe practices, cleanroom protocols, and defense quality standards.
โ€ข Proficient with quality reporting software and ERP systems.
Communication
โ€ข Effective communicator with technical and non-technical personnel.
โ€ข Capable of generating clear quality reports and actionable insights.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
โ€ข Work includes time on the production floor with moderate physical activity.
โ€ข Must be able to perform detailed visual inspection under magnification.
โ€ข Occasional travel to supplier or customer locations may be required.
