Remote Pcb Inspector information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote PCB Inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote PCB Inspector, you need a solid understanding of electronics, PCB manufacturing standards (such as IPC-A-600), and strong attention to detail, often supported by relevant technical certifications. Familiarity with inspection tools like automated optical inspection (AOI) systems, microscope imaging, and digital reporting platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for effective remote collaboration and issue resolution. These competencies ensure accurate defect identification, maintain product quality, and support efficient remote workflows in electronics manufacturing.

What are some common challenges faced by remote PCB inspectors and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote PCB inspectors often encounter challenges such as limited access to physical boards, reliance on high-quality imaging, and the need for clear communication with on-site teams. To manage these, inspectors should utilize advanced remote inspection tools, establish strong protocols for sharing detailed imagery, and maintain regular communication with manufacturing staff. Building familiarity with digital inspection platforms and proactively addressing potential miscommunications can greatly enhance efficiency and accuracy in the role.

What are Remote PCB Inspectors?

Remote PCB Inspectors are professionals who examine printed circuit boards (PCBs) for defects, quality standards, and compliance, often using digital tools and high-resolution images from a remote location. They review solder joints, component placements, and overall board integrity without being physically present in the manufacturing facility. Their work helps ensure the reliability and performance of electronic devices by identifying issues early in the production process. Remote PCB Inspectors typically communicate their findings to manufacturing teams and may use specialized software to assist in their inspections.

What is the difference between Remote Pcb Inspector vs Pcb Quality Technician?

The Remote Pcb Inspector and Pcb Quality Technician roles share similar certifications and industry usage, but differ mainly in work environment and job focus. The Remote Pcb Inspector performs visual inspections remotely, often via images or video, while the Pcb Quality Technician typically works on-site conducting hands-on inspections and testing. Both roles are essential for ensuring PCB quality in electronics manufacturing.

Job description

Stellar Solutions, a nationally recognized “Great Place To Work”, has exciting opportunities providing Engineering solutions for innovative new-entrant space companies, as well as established space systems manufacturers, commercial space system operators and service providers, and other industry stakeholders including investors.

At Stellar Solutions, we offer talented, energetic, and immediately productive resources to satisfy our customers’ critical needs in systems engineering and integration, mission operations, program management and strategic planning. We are a leading service and expertise provider for high-tech commercial ventures, spanning communications, earth observation and remote sensing systems and data products, to the infrastructures that support earth orbiting and beyond earth orbit businesses.

Stellar Solutions Inc. is searching for a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (PCB/PCBA) supporting high-reliability electronics for mission-critical aerospace and defense programs.

In this role, you will work closely with design engineering and supplier partners to ensure quality is built into products from the start - supporting development through production while driving supplier performance, risk reduction, and overall product reliability.

Role/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Partner with design teams to provide DFM input and ensure supplier readiness for PCB/PCBA and avionics components
  • Review product data (drawings, BOMs, test requirements) and align designs with supplier capabilities
  • Provide technical guidance on electronics manufacturing, inspection, and measurement methods
  • Drive supplier development, qualification, and performance across the product lifecycle
  • Support prototyping through production, including risk identification and mitigation
  • Execute quality processes such as PPAP, FAIR, audits, and inspection development
  • Lead supplier corrective actions (SCAR), RCCA, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Conduct supplier audits and ensure compliance with AS9100/ISO9001 and customer requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure predictable supply and successful program execution

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Proven experience as a leader in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering within electronics or EMS environments
  • Experience with PCB/PCBA or electrical components in aerospace, defense, or similar high-reliability industries
  • Experience supporting suppliers from prototype through production
  • Experience with source inspection and supplier quality management
  • Working knowledge of AS9100/ISO9001 and AS9102 (FAIR)
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001, etc.)
  • Experience with FMEA, APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and statistical analysis tools
  • Strong ownership mindset with ability to drive results independently
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a technical field
  • AS9100 Auditor certification
  • Experience with automated inspection or process qualification
  • Familiarity with common interfaces (Ethernet, CAN, SPI, etc.)
  • Experience supporting government contracts (ITAR, FAR/DFARS)
  • Experience with tools such as Teamcenter, SAP, Jira, Tableau, or Altium

The typical pay range for this position is USD $130,000 - $175,000 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, retirement plan and other benefits (all included as part of package).
