What is the difference between Full Time Pcb Inspector vs Part Time Pcb Inspector?

AspectFull Time Pcb InspectorPart Time Pcb Inspector
Work HoursTypically 40 hours/weekFewer hours, often less than 20/week
CertificationsOften requires IPC certificationMay require IPC certification, but less frequently
Work EnvironmentManufacturing facilities, quality control labsSimilar environments, but with flexible scheduling
Employer UsageCommon in full-scale manufacturing plantsUsed by smaller companies or for supplemental staffing

Full Time Pcb Inspectors work standard hours and often hold certifications like IPC. Part Time Pcb Inspectors have flexible schedules, may also need certifications, and typically work fewer hours. Both roles are essential for quality control in PCB manufacturing, but differ mainly in hours and employment structure.

Do pipeline inspectors make good money?

Pipeline inspectors, including those inspecting printed circuit boards (PCBs) or pipelines, typically earn competitive wages based on experience, certifications, and location. Full-time PCB inspectors often earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, with potential for higher pay with specialized skills or supervisory roles. The job may require attention to detail, knowledge of inspection tools, and adherence to safety standards.

Which is the highest paid job in PCB?

In the PCB industry, senior roles such as PCB Design Managers, Engineering Managers, or Quality Assurance Directors tend to be the highest paid positions. These roles require extensive experience, specialized skills, and often certifications, and they oversee complex projects or teams in manufacturing environments.

Is a QC inspector job stressful?

A full-time PCB inspector job can be stressful due to strict quality standards, tight production schedules, and the need for attention to detail. The role often requires focus on precision, use of inspection tools, and adherence to safety protocols, which can contribute to job pressure.

What kind of inspectors make the most money?

In general, inspectors with specialized skills, certifications, or experience tend to earn higher salaries. For example, quality control inspectors in high-demand industries or those with advanced technical training, such as PCB inspectors with certifications like IPC-A-610, often make more than entry-level inspectors. Salary also varies based on industry, location, and the complexity of the inspection tasks performed.

Job description

Quality Inspector Technician - PCB
Kellyยฎ Engineering is hiring a Quality Inspector for a contract position to work at our aerospace client. This role will be full time for 2-3-months. If you are passionate about shaping the world we live in and are ready to reengineer your future, trust the experts at hiring experts. ย
Salary/Pay Rate/Compensation:ย ย
$45.00-55.00 per hour
Overviewย
This client is on the cutting edge of EVOTL aircraft development and manufacturing. Youโ€™ll report to the Engineering Manager of supplier industrialization, executing Source Inspection of PCBAs and electronic assemblies destined for installation into EVOTL aircraft. This work will take place at their supplier site in Newark, CA & surrounding areas.
In this role youโ€™ll apply IPC-A-610 workmanship standards daily โ€” evaluating solder joints, component placement, cleanliness, coating, and marking โ€” and act as the subject matter expert for PCBA acceptance criteria on the production floor.
Responsibilities:
PCB / PCBA Inspection (Primary Focus)
  • Perform detailed visual inspection of PCBAs to IPC-A-610 Class 2/3 acceptance criteria, covering solder joints, component placement, cleanliness, conformal coating, marking, and workmanship.
  • Set up, operate, and interpret results from a 3D Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machine; review and disposition flagged conditions.
  • Conduct digital X-Ray inspection of BGA, QFN, and other hidden-joint components to verify solder void and bridging conditions.
  • Apply J-STD-001 soldering process requirements in evaluating assembled boards and working with process engineers on nonconformances.
  • Serve as the on-floor IPC-610 subject matter expert; provide guidance to assemblers and technicians on workmanship standards.
Dimensional & General Inspection
  • Use precision instruments (calipers, pin gauges, vision systems) for dimensional verification of electronic and mechanical components.
  • Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI) and generate AS9102-compliant FAI reports.
  • Perform incoming inspection of purchased electronic and electromechanical parts against purchase order and engineering requirements.
Documentation & Nonconformance
  • Document inspection results in the quality management system; maintain clear, auditable records.
  • Initiate and track nonconformance reports (NCRs) through the Material Review Board (MRB) process; communicate disposition to affected teams.
  • Ensure traceability of product, material, and calibrated equipment throughout the inspection lifecycle.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • High-school diploma or GED & 3+ years hands-on experience in electronics or PCBA assembly manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) โ€” CIS or CIT certification strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldering Electrical and Electronic Assemblies).
  • Experience setting up and operating 3D AOI equipment and interpreting inspection results.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic assembly drawings, schematics, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assembly work instructions.
  • Understanding of product, material, and calibration traceability in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborative mindset; comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
Pluses:
  • Experience with digital X-Ray inspection systems for BGA and other area-array packages.
  • Familiarity with Keyence vision systems, CMM, optical CMM (OMM), Faro Arm, or Romer Arm measurement equipment.
  • Proficiency with Polyworks metrology software or ability to program a Coordinate Measuring Machine.
  • Knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements and experience generating FAI packages.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent credential.
  • Understanding of basic statistical process control (SPC): plotting data, control charts, and recognizing out-of-control conditions.
