Description
Trenam Law is looking for a full-time Payroll, Benefits & HR Specialist to join our Human Resources team in our downtown Tampa office. This role is responsible for administering the firm's payroll, employee benefits, HRIS, and compliance functions while providing exceptional support throughout the employee lifecycle. This role serves as the primary resource for payroll, benefits, retirement plan administration, and HR systems, ensuring accurate, confidential, and compliant HR operations.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to accuracy, technically proficient, and customer-focused, with strong analytical skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. While payroll and benefits are the primary focus, this position also supports onboarding, compliance, and other HR initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & HRIS
  • Administer biweekly and semi-monthly payroll accurately and on time through Paylocity, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain employee records and administer the HRIS, ensuring data integrity and identifying opportunities to improve processes and reporting.
  • Coordinate payroll-related personnel actions, including new hires, compensation changes, leaves, and terminations.
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconcile payroll data, and support year-end processing and audits.

Benefits & Retirement
  • Administer all employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, health savings accounts, voluntary benefits, and retirement plans.
  • Manage new hire benefit enrollment, qualifying life events, benefit changes, COBRA administration, and assist in managing annual Open Enrollment.
  • Present benefits information during new hire orientation in both one-on-one and group settings, ensuring employees understand available benefit programs and enrollment processes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee benefits and retirement plan questions.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices, administer the firm's 401(k) plan, and support the annual 401(k) audit.

HR Administration
  • Maintain compliance with employment laws and HR policies, including I-9s, E-Verify, and personnel records.

โ€ข Assist with policy administration and recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, compliance, and employee experience.
  • Participate in HR projects and other departmental initiatives as needed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS management.
  • Experience with third-party payroll systems (Paylocity preferred).
  • Knowledge of employee benefits, 401(k) administration, payroll regulations, and employment law.
  • Experience supporting 401(k) audits and HR compliance preferred.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification (or interest in obtaining certification) preferred.
  • Law firm or professional services experience is a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
