Job Summary:

Transports patients and equipment throughout the Hospitals and Clinics via wheelchair or gurney.

Job Duties:

  • Assists floor staff with patient transfers to and from mode of transport.

  • Transports patients, belongings and deceased to and from assigned departments.

  • Assists patients in and out of vehicles and transport equipment.

  • Lifts and maneuvers patients using proper body mechanics and equipment, as needed.

  • Transports specific patient care equipment, specialty carts, and beds to requesting departments.

  • Assists with equipment management by identifying those needing cleaning and repair.

  • Transports soiled equipment to the appropriate cleaning area and broken equipment to be biomed for repairs.

  • Cleans soiled patient care equipment and stages for redistribution.

  • Maintains wheelchair availability in assigned staging locations.

  • Maintains eye contact, acknowledges and greets patient, and communicates the transport destination to the patient.

  • Interacts with patients in a professional manner, avoiding idle conversation that excludes the patient.

  • Collaborates with other healthcare team members to facilitate patient care and services.

  • Receives patient and equipment transport assignments via Smartphone.

  • Properly identifies patient prior to transport and assures that patient has an identification band.

  • Uses technology system for patient and equipment transports.

  • Utilizes the Delay and Postpone function within technology system to identify process delays in transportation of patients and/or equipment.

  • Issues rental equipment and log equipment when distributing.

  • Adheres to the Geisinger Patient Transport/Nursing Handoff Guidelines.

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Transporter a $2,500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, $15.25 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $2 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts! Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse!
