Job Title: Patient Transporter

Location: RWJUH Somerset

Department Name: Patient Transport

Status: Hourly

Shift: Evening

Pay Range: $16.68 - $18.99 per hour

Pay Transparency:

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel,

Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties,

Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients,

Adheres to universal infection control practices,

Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees,

Qualifications:

Must have excellent communications skills

Scheduling Requirements

Full Time Evening

Hours: 1PM 9:30PM

Every other weekend and holiday

Days to work varies

Essential Functions:

Accepts jobs in a timely manner,

Places self in progress within 5 minutes of receiving job assignment

Uses judgment in extending 5 minute grace period in waiting for patients

Notifies dispatcher of delays

Notifies system of job complete status

Contacts dispatcher within 3 - 5 minutes if no job is received

Advises nurse, nurse designee or technician when arrives to units and testing area

Introduces self to patient

Transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting patient Name and Date of Birth

Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa

Uses caution when rounding corners

Ensures brakes are used when transferring from stretcher and/or wheelchair

Maintains confidentiality of patient information

Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security

Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician

Always follow infection control and hand washing precaution before, during and after a transport
