Job description

Performance Driven Workforce (PDW) is now hiring Full Time OSA Senior Prototype Mechanic to support an automotive Tier 1 supplier in a prototype development and vehicle testing environment in San Francisco, CA. OSA (Operational Service Associate) team members support a specialized autonomous vehicle testing program, working alongside Operational Support Drivers and engineering teams. We are seeking motivated candidates to join our growing team who have hands-on mechanical experience and are ready to apply their skills to experimental prototype vehicles and emerging automotive technologies. This role works closely with engineering teams to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and support the development and validation of advanced vehicle systems including ADAS, autonomous, and electric vehicle technologies.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain vehicle functional condition by working from repair orders, engineering instructions, or leader direction to perform diagnostics, repairs, and inspections
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic system malfunctions, including component replacement and system integration
  • Validate and troubleshoot Driver Assist Technologies (DAT), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Autonomous Vehicle (AV), and Electric Vehicle (EV) systems
  • Follow and interpret service procedures, technical documentation, schematics, and engineering work instructions to ensure accurate and high-quality work
  • Assemble, modify, and repair wiring harnesses using schematics and proper electrical assembly techniques
  • Utilize diagnostic hardware and software to identify system faults and support vehicle testing and integration
  • Document diagnostics, repairs, modifications, and testing results in vehicle service records with clear and detailed descriptions of work performed, components serviced, and verification steps
  • Maintain shop equipment through proper operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance
  • Track inventory of project parts and supplies as needed
  • Work collaboratively with engineering teams and other technicians to complete prototype build and testing requirements
  • Provide technical guidance or mentorship to team members when needed
  • Support a clean, organized, and safe shop environment through daily upkeep and organization
Shift:
  • AM day shift: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday - Friday)
Pay:
  • $25.00 - $35.00/hr. (Depending on experience)
  • Plus, Overtime when available
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and a good driving record
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of automotive mechanical, electrical, or diagnostic experience
  • General ADAS system experience
  • Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical vehicle systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate shop equipment
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical documentation such as schematics, service procedures, and work instructions
  • Experience using vehicle diagnostic tools and software
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document technical work performed, including diagnostic reasoning, repair actions, and validation steps
  • Must be comfortable working on a computer/laptop interface, using programs such as but not limited to Slack, Teams, Google Sheets and Excel, along with proprietary diagnostic software (training provided)
  • Good attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have own tools with rolling toolbox
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute written procedures
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, or sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to regularly reach with hands and arms
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as needed
Preferred but not required:
  • Experience with Electric Vehicle (EV) or Autonomous Vehicle (AV) systems
  • Experience building or modifying wiring harnesses
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes or picoscopes
  • Knowledge of vehicle alignments, air conditioning (A/C) system repairs, tire machines, and balancers
  • Certificate or Associate Degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field
  • National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification(s)
  • ASE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Certification (L4)
  • State Mechanic Certification(s)
