The Role
Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems. Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors. Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants. Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal. Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics. Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
This requisition is for an Engineer Nuclear 3 supporting first shift in the E68 Nuclear Parts Master Office (NPMO). Job duties are to include the following: Processing and resolution of nuclear receipt inspection and warehouse quality notifications (F4 & F7 QNs). The position also requires interface with Nuclear Engineering Design and Construction Depts., SUPSHIP-NN, Supply Chain Procurement, as well as NNS Inspection Representatives to resolve issues associated with procurement of material for Navy ships.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
  • A strong nuclear background in NNS material processes, including: reviewing vendor drawings and interpreting military specifications.
  • Knowledge of the i2 Parts Catalog, SAP, and Nuclear A-Procedures is a plus.
