Job description

Senior Advisor - Mining Financial Business Analysis (Rio Tinto Services Inc., South Jordan, UT):
Work with stakeholders to evaluate investment proposals and business development opportunities by building and maintaining valuation models. Support the preparation of capital expenditure and project justification business cases, ensuring clear articulation of context, rationale, and expected outcomes. Perform detailed financial analysis to generate insights that strengthen business case recommendations. Draft investment committee papers and presentations for Rio Tinto leadership, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strategic alignment. Contribute to asset strategy and planning activities by conducting valuation analysis and providing regular updates on asset performance and outlook. Lead the financial planning and modeling efforts for annual long-term plan submissions, ensuring consistency and strategic alignment. Maintain and update valuation models for asset and project evaluations, including documentation of key assumptions and inputs. Assess and analyze key financial model inputs including cost data to ensure centrality and accuracy. Assist in the preparation and submission of annual planning documents, ensuring timely and accurate financial inputs. Support financial reporting processes, including impairment testing and other valuation-related requirements.
Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.
Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate related work experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, and 3 years of related work experience will be accepted.
Must have 3 years of experience in each of the following:
  • Financial valuation of assets, including application of discounted cash flow (DCF) methodologies;
  • Financial modeling skills, including Excel and VBA for automation and analysis;
  • Application of valuation concepts and metrics including Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), applied to investment decision-making, project evaluation, and asset
    valuation;
  • Preparing financial planning submissions and supporting financial reporting processes;
  • Data analysis, including extracting insights and recommendations; and
  • Creating reports and presenting technical or financial findings to non-technical audiences.

Must have 1 year of experience in each of the following:
  • Mining or Oil & Gas Industry, including collaboration with multi-disciplinary technical, study, and project teams; and
  • Knowledge of Asset impairment testing in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards.
