Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting for a Fulltime Medical Coder, Mon-Fri 7a-3:30p or 8a-4p.

This position is in Medical Records, the person must be reliable and have a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

Duties include:

Medical Coder:

Under supervision and guidance of the Medical Records Director, the coder is responsible for analyzing, abstracting, compiling data, and generating reports. This position requires knowledge of data entry and transcription.

This position requires ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information, HIPAA.

Interacts and communicates effectively with members of the medical record team and the appropriate stakeholders.

Must provide excellent customer service when dealing with internal and external contacts. Assemble and analyze with 100% accuracy. Runs missing chart report and notifies appropriate personnel. Follows through and investigates missing charts.

Responds promptly to internal and external customer requests.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Other duties will be assigned on a as needed basis, such as the ability to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Manages daily workload and consistently finishes on a daily basis. Keeps up with workload during high census periods, and participates in special projects, during low census period.

Requirements

Education: High School Diploma and a successful completion of a certification program required.

Minimum Work Experience: 2 year in a healthcare setting. Experience with medical coding guidelines and procedures such as ICD-10, CPT or current.

Skills:

  • Exhibits the skills and competencies required to safely execute the assigned duties, as assessed through continuous skills evaluations, competency assessments, and performance reviews.
  • Demonstrates adequate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English, essential for carrying out the core responsibilities of this position.
  • Possesses the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and colleagues in a manner that aligns with customer service standards.
